PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jeremy Ring (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Calvin Tate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeremy Ring!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Calvin Tate!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Kenichi Hosakawa and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ring does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Tate changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
A head kick misses from Ring.
A jab lands there for Ring.
Ring lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


Tate is rocked!
Tate moves out of range of the body kick.
Tate looks to score with a jab to the body but Ring is just out of range.
Ring throws a sloppy head kick and Tate moves out of range easily.
Ring tries to close the distance and clinch but Tate swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ring pulls out of a head kick attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ring scores with a hook to the body. Tate takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

and Tate counters with a shoot takedown. Ring fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tate wants to pass the guard but Ring is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tate with a flurry of punches that miss.
Tate in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Ring looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tate is one step ahead there.

Ring working for a triangle but Tate defends it easily.
Tate throws an elbow that misses. Ring uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Tate's guard. Nice move by Ring!


That's two minutes gone in the round.

Tate has an active guard here but Ring has managed to pass into half guard.
Ring has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Tate tries to get to full guard but Ring has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tate is defending against the submission attempts here by Ring.
It looks like Ring is going to stand back up.
Ring is pressing down on Tate's thigh, looking to free his foot. Tate is holding on for now.

Ring gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Ring scores with a head kick. Tate tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Tate avoids the head kick by Ring.
Tate swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Tate shoots in but Ring avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Tate avoids a punch combination nicely.
A head kick misses from Ring.
Ring buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Ring throws a sloppy head kick and Tate moves out of range easily.
Tate has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Ring.
Ring slaps away a takedown attempt from Tate, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ring misses with a head kick.
Ring throws the kick towards the body but Tate avoids it.
Ring fails with an attempt to clinch.
And Tate tries to counter it with a takedown but Ring pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Ring lands a nice looking body shot.
Tate takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ring pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ring pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!


Tate shoots in for a takedown but Ring shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A slapping body kick lands there for Ring.
Tate throws a looping overhand right but Ring ducks down to avoid it.
Ring throws a head kick but Tate moves out of range.
Tate tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Ring is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tate can do to turn this around?

Ring had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tate defends it easily.
Tate trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Ring is trying to control the position but Tate postures up.
Tate stands up over Ring, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tate accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Tate trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Ring throws a body kick that misses

so Tate counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Calvin Tate has got the better of the ground game so far.
Tate slips nicely into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ring is in trouble now - Tate has advanced to mount!
Ring is looking to improve his position but Tate isn't that keen on the idea.
The referee warns Ring that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Tate working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Tate tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Tate in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Tate landing punches.
Ring squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Ring is squirming around, avoiding Tate's attempts to control the action.
Ring is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Ring is looking to improve his position but Tate isn't that keen on the idea.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ring is bucking up trying to escape but Tate cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Tate landing punches.
Tate throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Ring because Tate loaded up on that one.
Ring in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tate with shots to the head and body - Ring looks very uncomfortable down there.
Tate unloads with some shots from mount but Ring bucks and avoids them well.
A nice elbow there by Tate.
Ring's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Calvin Tate showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Tate looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ring is fending him off so far but Tate persists. Nope, Ring circles away and we're back to standing.
Ring tries to land a front kick but Tate steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Tate avoids the head kick by Ring.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Ring! Tate is out on his feet! Ring rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Tate is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Tate is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:39 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jeremy Ring!
A victorious Jeremy Ring thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter.
Calvin Tate was interviewed post fight and said 'He is better than I thought, I will be back.'.
