Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Johnny Lukens! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Reynaldo Da Silva! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Da Silva tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Da Silva tries to close the distance and clinch but Lukens swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Da Silva tries to clinch but Lukens is having none of it. Lukens blocks a head kick by Da Silva.
Lukens lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Da Silva at a distance.
Lukens pushes Da Silva up against the cage in a clinch. Lukens avoiding damage as Da Silva throws knees to the body.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Da Silva. Da Silva tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lukens lands a body punch. Lukens is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Lukens escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lukens gets in close and instigates a clinch. Da Silva throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Da Silva slows down the pace here.
Lukens manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lukens breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Reynaldo Da Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Da Silva tries to clinch but Lukens moves away and Lukens counters with a right hand to the body. Da Silva tries to clinch but fails miserably and Lukens counters by moving into the clinch. Da Silva throws a knee to the head but misses.
Lukens gets control of Da Silva's arms and successfully pulls guard. Lukens will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Lukens had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Da Silva is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Lukens Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Da Silva's back instead. Da Silva is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Da Silva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lukens. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Da Silva is trying to defend against the choke here but Lukens has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Lukens Tightens the hold and Da Silva taps out furiously! Lukens displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Johnny Lukens!
