The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roman throws a hook but Malapitan avoids it easily.
A little jabbing left from Malapitan on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Malapitan smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Malapitan lands a jab to the head.
Malapitan looks to throw the jab but Roman is out of range.
Malapitan steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Roman.
It seemed like Malapitan was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Roman stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Roman throws a low kick, looking for Malapitan's leg but Malapitan calmly moves out of range.
Roman looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Roman looks to score with a jab to the body but Malapitan is just out of range.
Roman lands a slapping body shot.
Malapitan rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Roman counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Roman wants to clinch up but Malapitan keeps it at a distance.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Roman moves away from the strike by Malapitan.
Roman connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Malapitan is rocked!
Roman lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Malapitan up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs Roman from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Malapitan's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Dante Gael Roman!
