Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Reynard The Fox! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimmy Snuka! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, David Schapiro and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The Fox is trying hard to land a takedown here. Snuka sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. The Fox tries to bum rush Snuka with a series of wild strikes but Snuka uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Snuka shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Snuka throws a right and a left that The Fox avoids nicely. Snuka misses with a kick to the body.
The Fox looks for the body kick but Snuka saw that one coming. The Fox avoids a punch combination nicely.
Snuka avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
The Fox defending well as Snuka loads up on a big left hand. The Fox fails with a takedown attempt. Jimmy Snuka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The Fox throws a head kick that misses. The Fox tries to close the distance and clinch but Snuka swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. The Fox tries to clinch up but Snuka circles away and keeps his distance. The Fox tries a head kick but it misses.
The Fox goes for a double leg but Snuka avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Snuka continues to drive forward. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Reynard The Fox. That's going to take a lot out of him. Snuka lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
That's one minute gone in the round. Snuka closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Snuka working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Snuka drops an elbow to the side of The Fox's head. The Fox trying to control here.
The Fox is trying to get back to full guard. Snuka landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Snuka slips a nice elbow through The Fox's hands, connecting with The Fox's forehead. Snuka is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and The Fox defends it well. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Snuka lands a nice short elbow. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Snuka working The Fox over with strikes. Snuka is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The Fox wants to improve his position but Snuka is controlling well.
Snuka is controlling the pace.
Snuka winds up and cracks The Fox with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Snuka landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Snuka is keen to just control but The Fox is a slippery customer. Snuka is looking for a kimura here.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Snuka frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Snuka putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Snuka working away from the top, dropping strikes. The Fox is bucking up trying to escape but Snuka cracks him with another couple of good strikes. The Fox wants to control but Snuka is having none of it. Snuka is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, The Fox has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Snuka cracks The Fox with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The Fox is looking to improve his position but Snuka isn't that keen on the idea. Snuka is landing with some decent strikes but The Fox is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The Fox is rocked! Snuka drops a big elbow. That's hurt The Fox! More shots from Snuka and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
