Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aurelio Mullen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joe Johnson! The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paul Aken and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mullen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Johnson but Johnson pushes him off and we're back to square one. Johnson drives through with a takedown into Mullen's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Johnson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Mullen throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Johnson sitting in guard, not really doing much. Mullen is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mullen keeping moving, preventing Johnson from controlling successfully. Mullen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mullen can't keep his opponent in guard - Johnson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Mullen wants to get back to his feet.
Johnson trying to control from half guard but Mullen is working away. Well, if Johnson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Johnson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Mullen tries to keep at a distance but Johnson has taken the fight into the clinch. Mullen is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Johnson has picked Mullen up - he's going for a ride! Johnson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Johnson trying to control from half guard but Mullen is working away. Mullen actively working from the bottom here. Johnson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mullen quickly recovers to half guard. Johnson moves into full mount! Mullen won't be happy about that! Mullen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Johnson looking to control and managing it successfully. Johnson lands with some strikes.
Mullen is rocked! Johnson is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet! Oh Mullen is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Johnson steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! Mullen is out on his feet! Johnson sets himself and nearly takes Mullen's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!
