PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bruno Krause (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roddy Piper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Piper has chosen Green Hills of Tyrol as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Bruno Krause!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Roddy Piper!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Donald Grub and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Krause throws a chopping leg kick but Piper manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Krause looks to land a body kick but Piper moved away.
Piper displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Krause.
Krause scores with a kick to the midsection.
Piper lands a slapping body shot.
Piper uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Krause pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Krause throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Krause takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A decent looking body kick lands there for Krause.
Krause has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Piper lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Krause throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Piper cracks Krause with a right hand to the side of the head.
Krause dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Piper. That did some damage!
Piper tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Krause was well out of range. Poor timing from Piper.
Krause moves out of range as Piper strikes.
Piper takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Krause swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Krause half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Roddy Piper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Krause drops down looking for a counter takedown but Piper sprawls and moves away.
Krause closes this distance looking for a takedown but Piper circles away.
A little jabbing left from Piper on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Piper! But no joy.
Piper might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

It looks like Bruno Krause has been cut.
Roddy Piper is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Krause is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Piper.

Piper bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Krause's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Krause utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Piper's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Piper is looking to work some ground and pound but Krause has wrist control.
Krause controls Piper momentarily but Piper frees himself.
Krause looking to hit a scissor sweep but Piper is one step ahead there.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Piper throws a hook to the side of Krause's head but Krause sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Piper has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Krause.
Piper throws the left hand but Krause avoids the punch easily.
Piper bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Piper misses with a wild body shot.
Piper loads up on a big right hand but Krause slips the punch.
Piper lands with a nice body punch.

and Piper counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Piper throws a lazy right hand but Krause sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Piper throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Piper gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Krause goes for a takedown attempt but Piper pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Krause throws a push kick but Piper slaps the foot to one side.

Piper connects with a nice looking jab.
A bone on bone clash there as Piper blocks the leg kick.
Krause misses with a kick to the body.
Piper lands a really nice looking cross but Krause seems unphased.

Piper steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Krause. That one must have hurt.
Piper has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A looping hook to the body misses from Krause. Piper does a little dance to reset his feet.
Krause is looking to wear down Piper with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Krause looks for a takedown but Piper sprawls well.

Roddy Piper showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Krause's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Piper swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Krause changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Piper throws a hook but Krause blocks it.
Krause takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

The fighters circle momentarily. Piper darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Krause is looking to land body kicks.
Krause slips under a jab from Piper.
Krause ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Piper loads up on a big right hand but Krause slips the punch.
Krause throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Piper has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Krause.

and Krause counters with a nice double leg into side control. Piper won't be happy with that.

Piper throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Piper tries to improve position but can't.
Bruno Krause has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Piper is trying to control Krause's posture but Krause avoids it.

Piper looks to move to half guard but instead Krause has passed into mount! Damn!
Krause wants to control the pace but Piper is squirming around nicely.
Piper tries to reverse the position but Krause maintains control.

Krause goes for an armbar but Piper turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Piper.

Piper looking to sit in guard and control but Krause gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Piper wants to sweep but no luck.
Piper is trying to control the position but Krause postures up.
Piper keeping moving, preventing Krause from controlling successfully.
Krause advances position into side control!
Bruno Krause overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Krause advances to full mount.
Krause misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Krause is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Piper is in real trouble.
Krause lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Krause.
Can Piper hold on?! Krause is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Krause is trying to stick to Piper's back but Piper is turning into Krause. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Krause's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Piper.

I think Piper has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
