The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters circling a little - Lopes finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Lopes tries a head kick but it misses.
Lopes closes the distance and clinches.
Couture wants the takedown. Lopes is fighting it off but Couture persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Lopes's guard against the ropes.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Couture is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Lopes is working an open guard so Couture takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Lopes turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
