PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Delmar Chen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grunfeld Bach (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Delmar Chen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Grunfeld Bach!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bach shoots in and bounces Chen off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Bach trying to control the position from guard on top but Chen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chen wants to stand up but Bach is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bach in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Bach gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bach swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Bach gets a takedown into half guard.
Bach tries to pass the half guard into mount. Chen knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chen pushes Bach off looking to stand but Bach dives back in and keeps control.
Bach scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Bach sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Chen defending well though.
Bach is just content to waste time from the top position. Chen takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Chen could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Chen is looking for a triangle but Bach pushes his legs off easily.
Chen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Bach passes the guard and advances to mount!
Bach fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Bach goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Chen is on top in guard.

Chen won't allow Bach to get back to his feet.
Bach looking for a sweep. Not yet Bach, not yet.
Bach manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Chen manages to get himself to full guard.

Chen is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Bach tries to free his leg and advance position but Chen is retaining full guard.
Bach throws a strike but Chen rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Bach has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Chen has passed into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bach tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Bach is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Chen asserts his dominance and retains side control.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grunfeld Bach dominated that round.
That's time! Chen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Bach closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Chen to the mat! Chen manages to get full guard.
Bach has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Bach throws a big elbow that misses.
Bach keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Chen's head.

Grunfeld Bach has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bach bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Chen's guard.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Bach. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Bach keeping moving, preventing Chen from controlling successfully.
Chen's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Bach is pulling down on Chen's head. It's preventing any offense from Chen, at least for the moment.
Bach wants to stand but Chen is controlling the position.
Bach is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Chen dives into side control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Chen wants to control but Bach is keeping him busy.
Bach wants to control but Chen postures up.

Bach is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Bach's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Chen working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Bach closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Chen wants to improve his position but Bach is controlling well.

Chen has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Bach. Oh but Chen has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Bach goes limp - he's gone! Chen jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Delmar Chen!
