PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Red Blue (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Reese (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Blue might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Be Survivor. Reese has chosen Bad Boys as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Red Blue!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Reese!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Russell Pearce and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reese throws a nice looking combination but Blue bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Blue shoots for a double leg takedown but Reese sprawls well. He's pushed Blue's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Reese clinches up against the cage.
Reese effectively controlling the action here.
Reese stalling against the cage.
Blue lands a right hand.

Blue breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Blue throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Reese drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Blue is trying to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reese trying to control the position but Blue is working away.
Blue wants to control but Reese postures up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Blue is looking for a sweep.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Blue throws a head kick that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Blue rushes Reese and presses him up against the cage.

Blue pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Blue shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Reese as he jumps to the side.
Blue throws a shot from downtown. Reese moves away and avoids it.

Reese closes the distance and clinches.
Blue trying to land knees to the body.
Reese gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Blue.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Red Blue. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Reese manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Reese lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reese goes for a takedown attempt but Blue pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Reese closes the distance and pushes Blue back into the cage.
Blue jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Reese walks away with a smile on his face. Blue gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Reese looks to score with a jab to the body but Blue is just out of range.
Reese stuns Blue with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Blue!

Reese shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Blue is looking to control Reese's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Blue avoid being mounted?

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Blue is trying to stand up here but Reese is controlling him well.
It looks like Reese is going to stand back up.
Blue trying to control but Reese postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Reese is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Blue is in trouble now - Reese has advanced to mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Reese dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Reese has closed the distance and engaged Blue in a clinch.

Reese breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Reese throws a nice looking combination but Blue bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Blue shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Reese clinches up with Blue and pushes him back against the cage.

Reese escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
John Reese seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Blue wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blue shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Reese sprawls well. Reese wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Blue gets slowly back to his feet.
A slapping leg kick lands for Reese.

Reese clinches with his opponent.

Reese breaks from the clinch.

Reese closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Blue did well to prevent Reese getting side control.
Blue is trying to stand up here but Reese is controlling him well.
Reese wants to control but Blue is keeping him busy.
Blue is trying to get back to full guard.

Reese postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Blue to stand up.

Blue swats away the attempt to clinch by Reese.
Blue ducks under a wild hook from Reese.
Sloppy strikes from Reese. Those never looked like landing.
Blue looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Reese is fending him off so far but Blue persists. Nope, Reese circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Red Blue. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Reese stuffs the takedown.

Reese moves into range and clinches up with Blue.
Reese is trying to drag Blue to the mat but Blue just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Blue tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Reese works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Reese breaks from the clinch.

Reese has managed to clinch.

Blue's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Blue tries to clinch there but Reese circles away.

Reese moves into range and clinches up with Blue.
Reese can't find room to land a body shot as Blue controls the action.
Reese is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Blue pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Blue is trying to pull guard but Reese turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Blue is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Reese is defending well.
Blue is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Blue tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Reese's elbow.

Reese landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Reese escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Blue doesn't manage to clinch there - Reese circles away.
Reese comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Blue tries to keep at a distance but Reese has taken the fight into the clinch.

Reese breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Reese shoots in for a takedown but Blue shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
It looked like Blue was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Reese circles away from the clinch attempt.
Reese has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.

Reese rushes Blue and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Blue goes for a takedown in the clinch but Reese prevents it.

Blue manages to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Reese showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Reese tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Reese stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Reese wants it to stay on the feet.
Reese displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Blue.
Reese fails with a takedown attempt.
Blue tries to counter by clinching up but Reese breaks away and moves out of range.

Blue instigates a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reese has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Blue avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Reese tries to work over Blue's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Blue tries to pull guard but Reese holds him up against the cage and eventually Blue drops back down to his feet.

Reese pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

A head kick misses from Blue.
Reese doesn't manage to clinch there - Blue circles away.

Blue tries to keep at a distance but Reese has taken the fight into the clinch.
Reese landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Reese turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Reese manages to end up in side control.
John Reese has got the better of the ground game so far.
You can see the frustration on Blue's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Reese wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Blue, who protects the arm well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Blue is trying to buck Reese off.

Reese decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Blue throws a leg kick but Reese sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Blue avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Reese fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Blue, pushing him back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Blue is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Reese is defending well for now.
Blue tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Reese smiles and moves away.
Reese swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Reese lunges at Blue with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Blue's hand.
Reese has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Reese feints and as Blue raises his hands in defense, Reese changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Reese wants to control from the top but Blue keeps moving.

Reese gets to his feet. Blue looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Blue shoots in and gets a takedown into Reese's guard.

Reese pushes Blue off and gets back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Blue gets caught flat footed, as Reese shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Blue is trying to keep Reese in close.

Blue is looking for a triangle but Reese pushes his legs off easily.
John Reese is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Reese gets to his feet. Blue looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Blue fails with a takedown attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Reese comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Reese has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
