PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Christian Bocceli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edward McManis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Christian Bocceli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edward McManis!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McManis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
McManis prevents Bocceli from escaping the position.
Bocceli can't do much from the bottom here.

McManis throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Bocceli had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. McManis defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bocceli escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McManis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
McManis scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Bocceli has momentary wrist control but McManis slips an elbow through the middle.

Bocceli is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
McManis keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bocceli's head.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Bocceli is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst McManis is controlling him.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McManis lands a couple of elbows.
McManis is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
McManis is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bocceli tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

McManis lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bocceli circles away quickly and effectively.
A jab lands there for McManis.
We've been informed that McManis has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Bocceli is looking to clinch but McManis is avoiding it.

McManis misses with a head kick.

McManis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Bocceli on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

McManis creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Bocceli is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, McManis asserts his dominance and retains side control.
McManis scores with a couple of short elbows.
Bocceli tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McManis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McManis wants to stand but Bocceli is controlling his arm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bocceli is working to avoid the ground and pound but McManis connects with a decent elbow.

McManis defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Bocceli's arms.
Bocceli is hanging on to McManis's back as he tries to escape.

McManis is still trying to improve position.
Bocceli is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Bocceli gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Bocceli gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Bocceli apologises and we restart here on the feet.
McManis lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
McManis throws a low kick but Bocceli avoids it.
McManis takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Bocceli tries for a takedown but McManis circles away easily
and McManis cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
McManis lands with a straight right. Bocceli didn't see that one coming.
McManis rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bocceli moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Bocceli slips a jab and a cross from McManis.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McManis throws a left and a right that both miss
and Bocceli counters with a head kick.

Nice takedown defense from McManis. No joy for Bocceli on that attempt.

McManis defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bocceli.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Christian Bocceli. That's going to take a lot out of him.

McManis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

McManis content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Bocceli has locked up a guillotine! Bocceli's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? McManis is holding on here and Bocceli must be using up a lot of energy. McManis has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Bocceli gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Christian Bocceli!
In defeat, Edward McManis stepped up to the mic, saying 'You all seem it !it was a eye poke! I just could not see BUT ILL BE BACK'.
