Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Merle Burton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Antonio Vasquez! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burton clinches up against the cage. Burton breaks the clinch.
Vasquez pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Vasquez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Burton wants to clinch. Vasquez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
And Burton counters with a quick kick to the body but Vasquez blocks it. A combination from Vasquez does no damage. Burton half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Burton takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Danga de danga de dang - Vasquez scores with a four punch combination! Vasquez gets tackled into the cage by Burton. Burton maintains the clinch. Burton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Vasquez swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Burton holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Burton holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Burton's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
That's one minute gone in the round. Burton shoots for a takedown but Vasquez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Vasquez pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Vasquez throws a head kick that misses. Burton tries to counter with a takedown but Vasquez is quick to defend against it. Nice cross by Vasquez. Vasquez throws a sloppy head kick and Burton moves out of range easily. Vasquez works over Burton's head and body with a nice combination. Burton darts in looking for a takedown but Vasquez gets double underhooks and turns Burton into the cage. Vasquez raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Burton tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Vasquez closes the distance and lands a one-two. Vasquez has closed the distance and engaged Burton in a clinch.
Burton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Vasquez throws a sloppy head kick and Burton moves out of range easily. Vasquez looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Burton moves in looking to clinch but Vasquez pushes him off. Burton darts in and clinches Vasquez up against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Burton breaks the clinch.
Vasquez works over Burton's head and body with a nice combination. Vasquez looks winded! Burton tries to clinch but Vasquez is having none of it. Vasquez circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Burton drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Vasquez follows Burton to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!
