PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Konstantyn Sobczak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stan Hayes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Konstantyn Sobczak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stan Hayes!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hayes shoots in looking for a takedown. Sobczak tries to sprawl out of it but Hayes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sobczak manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Hayes content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Sobczak manages to break the clinch.
Hayes blocks a head kick by Sobczak.
Sobczak throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sobczak throws a sloppy head kick and Hayes moves out of range easily.
Sobczak fails to land with a series of punches.
Hayes doesn't manage to clinch there - Sobczak circles away.

Hayes shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hayes showed some decent athleticism there.
Hayes frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Sobczak slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Sobczak wants to get back to his feet.

Hayes is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Sobczak has managed to free his arm - good work.

Hayes decides to stand and escape the position.
A head kick misses from Sobczak.
Hayes should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
A left and a right from Sobczak both land. Nice combination.
Sobczak takes a swing at Hayes's ribcage but misses.
Hayes shoots in but Sobczak avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Hayes throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

and Sobczak counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Sobczak fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Hayes on the side of the head.

Hayes closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hayes takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Sobczak wants to control but Hayes is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Sobczak kicks off Hayes and gets to his feet.
Sobczak looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Sobczak throws a lazy head kick

and Hayes counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Sobczak presses Hayes against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Hayes wants a takedown but no success here.
Konstantyn Sobczak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stan Hayes.

Hayes manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sobczak decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hayes, up you get!

and Hayes counters with a nice body shot.
Sobczak throws a front kick that sends Hayes stumbling back into the cage.

Hayes has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Hayes gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sobczak goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Hayes tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sobczak just stands there and leans against the cage.
Sobczak is pressed up against the cage. Hayes has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sobczak down to the mat. Sobczak avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Hayes checks a leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Konstantyn Sobczak will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hayes closes the distance and clinches up with Sobczak, looking for a takedown. Hayes pushes Sobczak against the cage but Sobczak circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Sobczak throws a series of punches but Hayes avoids them all with ease.

Hayes moves into the clinch successfully.
Sobczak wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Sobczak tries to break the clinch but Hayes is controlling the position.
Sobczak wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Hayes has him pressed against the cage.

Hayes scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Hayes is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Sobczak is trying to get back to his feet.

Sobczak pushes Hayes away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hayes gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Hayes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sobczak, who protects the arm well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Sobczak wants to stand up but Hayes is controlling him.
Hayes throws a big right hand that misses.
Sobczak utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Sobczak is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hayes is controlling him.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hayes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Sobczak is looking to stand up but Hayes isn't so interested in that idea.

Hayes stands up from Sobczak's guard - Hayes perhaps looking for a knockout.

Hayes tries to clinch up but Sobczak circles away and keeps his distance.
Sobczak keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Hayes throws a right and a left that Sobczak avoids nicely.
Sobczak finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Hayes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sobczak tries to avoid it but Hayes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sobczak to the ground. Sobczak escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hayes shoots in for a double leg but Sobczak sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Sobczak throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Sobczak lands a nice looking kick to the body. Hayes takes a step back to recover.
Hayes doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Sobczak throws a front kick that sends Hayes stumbling back into the cage.

and Hayes counters with a shoot takedown. Sobczak fights it but they end up in guard.
Hayes prevents Sobczak from getting back to his feet.
Hayes postures up in Sobczak's guard and throws a big left but Sobczak blocks it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

An inside leg kick lands from Hayes.

Hayes is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Hayes prevents Sobczak from getting back to his feet.
Sobczak will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hayes drops back looking for a leg! Sobczak is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sobczak manages to kick Hayes off! Hayes jumps back into Sobczak's guard.

Hayes not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Sobczak wants to get back to his feet but Hayes is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hayes throws a push kick but Sobczak slaps the foot to one side.
Sobczak throws a leg kick but Hayes sees it coming and moves out of range.

Hayes can't escape the position.
Hayes is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Hayes tries to lock up and control but Sobczak gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Stan Hayes has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sobczak is landing with some decent strikes but Hayes is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Sobczak trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Hayes avoids a series of strikes thrown by Sobczak.
Hayes flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Sobczak can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hayes is looking to escape.

Sobczak stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Sobczak catches Hayes with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hayes takes a head kick and shrugs it off.


It looks like Stan Hayes has been cut.
Sobczak misses with an uppercut.
Sobczak misses with a kick to the body

and Hayes counters by clinching up.
Hayes's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Hayes prevents Sobczak from breaking the clinch.
Hayes tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sobczak smiles and moves away.

Hayes drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hayes passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Sobczak is trying to control Hayes's posture but Hayes avoids it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Konstantyn Sobczak.
I think Sobczak has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
