Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Gurr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robert Paulsen! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gurr throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Paulsen counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
It looks like Joe Gurr has been cut. Gurr tries to keep at a distance but Paulsen has taken the fight into the clinch. Paulsen blocks an uppercut.
Paulsen throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Gurrs head. Paulsen scores with a nice hook to the head. Gurr swings wildly with an uppercut but Paulsen uses good head movement to avoid it. Our sources have told us that Gurr has been working on his elbows in the gym. Gurr wants to break free but Paulsen has control.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Gurr lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gurr goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
The referee calls for Paulsen to work.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Paulsen takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
That's one minute gone in the round. A short uppercut from Paulsen. Paulsen lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Paulsen prevents Gurr from breaking the clinch. A battle for position here, against the cage. Paulsen lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Gurr backwards. Gurr wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Gurr tries to break free but Paulsen pushes him back against the cage. Gurr breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Joe Gurr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gurr moves into the clinch. Paulsen scores with a shoulder strike. Paulsen lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Gurr backwards. Gurr working hard to break the clinch. Paulsen softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Gurr is rocked! Paulsen drops Gurr onto one knee with a big uppercut from the clinch! Gurr is propped up by the cage and works his way back to his feet! Oh Gurr is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gurr misses with some punches.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Gurr. Gurr tries a body shot but Paulsen blocks it.
Paulsen tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Gurr seems to have got his legs back now. A head punch blocked on the inside by Paulsen. Paulsen lands with a short shot to the head. Gurr tries to break free but Paulsen pushes him back against the cage. Paulsen softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Gurr pushes off an throws an elbow but Paulsen leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage. Gurr tries to break free but Paulsen pushes him back against the cage. A shot in the inside from Paulsen. Paulsen drops Gurr onto one knee with a big uppercut from the clinch! Gurr is propped up by the cage and works his way back to his feet! Paulsen lands with a short shot to the head. Paulsen lands an uppercut. Paulsen has Gurr pressed against the cage, preventing Gurr from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Joe Gurr's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Paulsen is stalling here.

Paulsen drops Gurr onto one knee with a big uppercut from the clinch! Gurr is propped up by the cage and works his way back to his feet! Gurr lands a nice elbow from the clinch. Paulsen dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Gurr working hard to break the clinch. Paulsen is struggling to control the position. Paulsen lands a left hand that snaps the head of Gurr backwards. Paulsen lands with a left to the head. Paulsen scores with a shot to the side of Gurr's head. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Paulsen scores with a nice hook to the head.
Jeez, Joe Gurr's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked. Gurr wants to break the clinch but can't.
Gurr breaks the clinch.
Gurr throws a looping overhand right but Paulsen ducks down to avoid it. Paulsen unleashes a big counter combination but Gurr bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Robert Paulsen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Paulsen clinches with his opponent.
Paulsen digs a right hand into Gurr's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Gurr's gas tank. Paulsen blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Paulsen lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Gurr backwards. Gurr misses with a hook from the clinch. Gurr tries to work over Paulsen's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Gurr tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Paulsen avoids it. Gurr's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Paulsen lands with a light punch inside. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Paulsen creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Joe Gurr's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Robert Paulsen!
