PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Raijin Kage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lars Thunstrom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kage kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Ride the Lightning. Thunstrom comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Prodigy - Spitfire kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Raijin Kage could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Lars Thunstrom's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division.

With a record of 35 - 23 - 2, fighting out of New York, Lars Thunstrom!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Jorge Garcia and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kage closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Kage struggles to land a body shot inside as Thunstrom controls his hands.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Thunstrom takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Kage throws a strike but Thunstrom rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

It seemed like Thunstrom was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Thunstrom jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Kage throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Thunstrom works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Thunstrom is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kage is aware though and is defending well.

Lars Thunstrom showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Kage shoots in looking for a takedown. Thunstrom tries to sprawl out of it but Kage keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Thunstrom manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Thunstrom is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Thunstrom has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kage is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Thunstrom.

You can see the frustration on Thunstrom's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Thunstrom parries the strikes from Kage easily there. Kage is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Thunstrom to escape.

Kage scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Thunstrom is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Kage can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

After winning the bout, Raijin Kage thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
