Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kanegawa Takanobu! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Robert DeLeo! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Takanobu drops his hands momentarily and DeLeo takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
It looks like Kanegawa Takanobu has been cut. DeLeo moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. The crowd cheers as DeLeo lands an impressive looking overhand right. Takanobu doesn't seem phased though. Takanobu takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Takanobu doesn't succeed with the takedown enabling DeLeo to counter with a crisp jab. DeLeo scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Takanobu doesn't seem bothered though. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. DeLeo throws a good cross that connects.
Takanobu with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling DeLeo to score with a decent uppercut. Robert DeLeo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's one minute gone in the round. DeLeo lands a nice shot that snaps Takanobu's head back.
Kanegawa Takanobu's cut is getting worse. DeLeo lands a nice shot that snaps Takanobu's head back.
DeLeo with a nice cross. Takanobu takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. DeLeo scores with a body shot.
DeLeo's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and DeLeo duly obliges.
Kanegawa Takanobu's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. DeLeo lands a glancing blow to the side of Takanobu's head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. DeLeo works the jab nicely.
Jeez, Kanegawa Takanobu's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Takanobu goes for a double leg but DeLeo avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as DeLeo continues to drive forward. DeLeo tests Takanobu's chin there with a solid looking shot. DeLeo is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Takanobu had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Takanobu doesn't succeed with the takedown and DeLeo counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Kanegawa Takanobu's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Robert DeLeo!
