Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shaun Weber! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Timothy Simpson! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Igor Prikhodko and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Simpson scores with a one two! Weber had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
It looks like Shaun Weber has been cut. Simpson fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Weber looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Weber looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Weber could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Weber blocks a head kick by Simpson.
Weber is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Simpson. Simpson throws a left and a right that both miss
and Weber counters with a takedown into side control. Simpson is trying to improve his position. Simpson is trying to buck Weber off. Weber tries to stand but Simpson is controlling his head. Weber lands some shots froms side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Simpson tries to improve position but can't. Weber decides to stand up, so the ref orders Simpson to his feet. Nice uppercut there from Simpson. A combination from Simpson does no damage. Weber tries to move into range but Simpson moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Simpson connects with the punch. Simpson throws a good cross that connects.
Simpson lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Simpson misses with a right hand and Weber counters with a left and a right that stings Simpson. Simpson misses with a double jab.
As Simpson tries to get set, Weber tries to push him back and clinch up but Simpson manages to avoid the attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Horrible takedown attempt by Weber or perhaps it was just good defense by Simpson, which made it look bad. Weber is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Simpson. Weber shoots for a double leg takedown but Simpson sprawls well. He's pushed Weber's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shaun Weber. That's going to take a lot out of him. Simpson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Weber manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Simpson landing some decent shots from guard. Weber is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Weber trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Simpson lands a couple of digs. Weber is looking to stand up but Simpson isn't so interested in that idea. Simpson throwing strikes from guard but Weber blocks nicely. Simpson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Simpson is defended easily by Weber.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Simpson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Simpson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Weber is trying to get back to his feet. Weber is looking to regain half guard here but Simpson keeps moving and retains side control. Simpson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Weber keeps working. Simpson working the head and body with strikes. Weber tries to escape but Simpson is in control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Weber regains half guard. Simpson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Weber with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Timothy Simpson dominated that round. The cut man is working on Shaun Weber's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Weber on the wrong end of a nice hook. Timothy Simpson seems to be getting the better of the standup. Sloppy strikes from Simpson. Those never looked like landing. Simpson works over Weber's head and body with a nice combination. Simpson throws a push kick but Weber slaps the foot to one side. Weber goes for a double leg but Simpson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Simpson continues to drive forward. Simpson has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Simpson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Weber looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Simpson fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Simpson is chipping away with strikes.
Weber gets back to half guard. Simpson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Weber. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Weber avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Simpson. Simpson wants to pass to mount but Weber is defending the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Simpson wants to take a breather but Weber is having none of it. Weber wants to get back to his feet.
Simpson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Weber with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Simpson takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Weber wants to get back to his feet. Simpson throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Simpson slips a nice elbow through Weber's hands, connecting with Weber's forehead. Simpson looks to land a strike but Weber avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Simpson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Simpson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Weber is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Simpson trying to control but Weber is working from the bottom.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Simpson pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Weber back to the cage. Simpson follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Weber is rocked! Simpson has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Simpson lands an overhand right. Oh Weber is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Simpson pounces like a tiger and cracks Weber with a vicious hook! Weber is down but not out! Simpson follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Timothy Simpson!
