Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sergey Chernov! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
29 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Keijo Harkimo! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Atkins and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Harkimo misses the jab. Chernov throws a counter high kick but Harkimo was just alert enough to avoid it. Harkimo wants to clinch. Chernov looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger. Harkimo with a hook. Harkimo lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Chernov lands a leg kick that knocks Harkimo off balance momentarily. Chernov walks into a left hand. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Harkimo misses with a head kick.
A cross from Harkimo lands. Chernov does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Chernov fails with an attempt to clinch.
Harkimo cracks Chernov with an open hand slap.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chernov throws a head kick that half lands.
Chernov lands with a thumping leg kick.
Chernov lands a nice shot that snaps Harkimo's head back.
Harkimo thuds a left hand into Chernov's body. Harkimo avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Chernov takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Chernov keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Harkimo's jab looks to have found its range, popping Chernov under the eye. Harkimo pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. The fighters circle, before Harkimo throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Chernov's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Harkimo lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick & Punches). Keijo Harkimo! Keijo Harkimo is the new heavyweight champion! Keijo Harkimo seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
