Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jesse Jackson Jr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Glass Joe! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jackson Jr scores with a jab. Joe acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Jackson Jr scores with a jab. Joe tries a head kick but it misses.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Joe. Jackson Jr swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Joe looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Joe misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Joe has his takedown stuffed and Jackson Jr cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Jesse Jackson Jr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Glass Joe. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Joe doesn't succeed with the takedown and Jackson Jr counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Joe fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Joe doesn't succeed with the takedown and Jackson Jr counters with a nice uppercut. Jackson Jr circles away from the clinch attempt and Jackson Jr counters with a straight right hand. Jackson Jr scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Jackson Jr connects with a jab. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Joe is defended easily by Jackson Jr.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jackson Jr defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Joe. Joe takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Jesse Jackson Jr is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Joe shoots in looking for a takedown. Jackson Jr tries to sprawl out of it but Joe keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jackson Jr manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Jackson Jr lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Joe pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jackson Jr's corner calls for a 1-2. Jackson Jr obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Joe tries to grapple but his opponent circles enabling Jackson Jr to counter with a crisp jab. Jackson Jr scores with a jab. Joe fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Joe lands with a nice body kick. Jackson Jr lands a slapping body shot.
Joe fails with the takedown and Jackson Jr counters with a straight right hand. Oooooh!!! Jackson Jr has knocked Joe down with a huge combo! Jackson Jr steps away and waves a wobbly Joe back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Joe is rocked! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Joe doesn't succeed with the takedown and Jackson Jr counters with a stiff right hand. Joe is still on wobbly legs! Can Jackson Jr finish him?
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jackson Jr walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Joe drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Jackson Jr swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Joe's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jesse Jackson Jr!
