The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Balboa displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Valdez. Valdez dives in for a single leg takedown but Balboa sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Valdez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Balboa tries to avoid it but Valdez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Balboa to the ground. Balboa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Conan Balboa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of German Valdez. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Balboa lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Valdez has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Valdez and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Valdez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Valdez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Balboa tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Valdez is in Balboa's guard. Valdez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Balboa is looking to stand up but Valdez isn't so interested in that idea. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Valdez passes easily into side control. Nice work. Valdez is working to tighten his grip on Balboa's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Balboa has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Valdez is really squeezing tight and eventually Balboa passes out! Valdez breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). German Valdez! Our winner, German Valdez, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
