PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivo Koljeno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matt Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Ivo Koljeno!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Summer Carpenter and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Koljeno moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Walker throws a leg kick
and Koljeno counters with a two punch combo.
Koljeno has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Nice sprawl there from Walker as Koljeno shoots in.

Walker shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Koljeno napping and manages to drive through into side control!
A lull in the action here as Walker stalls from top position.
Walker's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Koljeno tries to bench press Walker off him but Walker keeps the position.
Koljeno is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Walker shoots in and gets a takedown into Koljeno's guard.

Koljeno has momentary wrist control but Walker slips an elbow through the middle.
Walker looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Walker is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Walker defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Koljeno.

Walker throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Koljeno tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Walker is in Koljeno's guard.

Walker closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Koljeno quickly recovers to half guard.
Koljeno tries to roll over but Walker keeps him under control.

Walker seems to be looking for submissions.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Walker seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Walker seems to be working for a kimura but Koljeno defends the submission attempt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Koljeno wants to control but Walker is keeping busy.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Koljeno throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Koljeno tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Walker manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Walker wants the takedown. Koljeno is fighting it off but Walker persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Koljeno's guard against the cage.

Walker slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Walker seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Koljeno for as long as he can get away with.

Walker seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Koljeno thuds his shin into the meat of Walker's side.
Koljeno looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Koljeno gets caught flat footed, as Walker shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Walker slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Koljeno isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Walker stacks Koljeno on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Walker!

Koljeno is trying to improve his position.

Walker lands a decent elbow from side control.
Koljeno takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Koljeno is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Walker asserts his dominance and retains side control.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Koljeno looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Walker has picked Koljeno up and slammed him! Koljeno can't keep hold of the triangle and Walker manages to pass to side control!

And that's the end of the fight!
Matt Walker showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Walker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
