PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeffry Preston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dustin Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dustin Carter will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jeffry Preston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dustin Carter!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Preston throws a head kick that misses.
Preston shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Carter as he jumps to the side.
Dustin Carter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Preston clinches up against the cage.
Carter wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Preston pressing his opponent against the cage.

Carter gets control of Preston's arms and successfully pulls guard. Carter will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carter tries to strike from the bottom.
Preston has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Carter is proving hard to escape from.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carter looking for a sweep. Not yet Carter, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carter pulls Preston in close to prevent any damage.
Preston is looking to stand up but Carter won't let him.
Carter wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Preston manages to pass to side control.

Preston is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Preston sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Carter defending well though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Carter is looking to get back to is feet but Preston passes into side control.
Preston trying to control the position but Carter is working away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Preston wants to stand but Carter is controlling his arm.
Preston working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Carter stuck in half guard on the bottom here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Preston gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Preston is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Preston is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Carter is aware though and is defending well.
Carter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Preston keeping full guard, as Carter tries to pass.
Carter trying to control but Preston is working from the bottom.
Carter not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Carter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Preston is keeping the position for now.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Carter looking to sit in guard and control but Preston gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Preston will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Preston decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Carter, up you get!
Preston really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Carter pushes Preston up against the cage in a clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Carter tries to circle away but Preston has him pinned against the cage.

Preston pulls guard successfully.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jeffry Preston will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Carter fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Preston sprawls well initially but Carter persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Carter trying to control from half guard but Preston is working away.
Carter might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Preston haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Preston is trying to stand back up but Carter is controlling him
Carter thows a huge punch but Preston dodges it nicely.
Carter is looking to take a break and control but Preston is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Carter looking to sit in guard and control but Preston gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Preston is looking to work some ground and pound but Carter has wrist control.
Preston throws a big right hand that misses.
Preston landing some decent shots from guard.

Carter is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Preston is aware though and is defending well.
Carter wants to stand and escape but Preston is having none of it.
Preston throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Carter is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Carter stalling away here and it's allowed Preston to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Preston tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Preston working for a triangle but Carter defends it easily.
Preston bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Carter's guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carter is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Carter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Preston working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Carter's head.
Carter will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Preston working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Preston trying to stand up but can't free himself from Carter's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Carter controlling Preston's posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Carter closes the distance and clinches.
Preston tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Preston is trying to pull guard but Carter turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Carter stops a takedown attempt from Preston.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeffry Preston. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Preston tries to pull guard but Carter forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Preston ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Preston no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Dustin Carter will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Preston is not content to let Carter control the position.
Preston is trying to control but can't.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Preston tries to clinch there but Carter circles away.
Carter circles away from the clinch attempt.
Carter steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Preston.
Preston wants to clinch up but Carter keeps it at a distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Carter gets a takedown into half guard.
Carter tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Preston.
Preston is controlling Carter's trapped leg to prevent Carter from advancing to side control.
Carter tries to stand and escape but Preston actually recovers to full guard.
Carter trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Preston manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carter is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Carter tries to pass to full mount but Preston defends it.
Preston is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Carter's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Carter's back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Preston scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Carter trying to control the position but Preston manages to sink in the hooks.
Carter is trying to stand back up.

Carter is trying escape back to his feet. He turns into his opponent's guard and eventually finds his way back to his feet.

Carter closes the distance and clinches.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carter lands a left hand.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Carter successfully pulls guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dustin Carter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Carter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
