PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shoto Murasaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alves comes to the ring accompanied by Sick Puppies - You're Going Down. The crowd seem to be enjoying Murasaki's choice of entrance music: PRIDE FC Theme. Shoto Murasaki has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shoto Murasaki!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Alves takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Alves circles away from the clinch attempt

and Alves counters with a nice double leg into side control. Murasaki won't be happy with that.
Murasaki is trying to get back to half guard.
Murasaki is trying to control Alves's posture but Alves avoids it.
Alves looks up at the clock and then as Murasaki takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Alves smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Alves in the domination position with Murasaki hanging on.
Murasaki is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Alves in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Alves misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alves looks up at the clock and then as Murasaki takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Alves smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Alves stands up and beckons Murasaki to his feet.
Shoto Murasaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alves scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Murasaki on the wrong end of a nice hook.


It looks like Shoto Murasaki has been cut.
Murasaki throws a combination that misses

and Alves counters with a takedown into side control.
Murasaki looks winded!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alves working the head and body with strikes.
Alves just content to control the position.
Murasaki pushes Alves away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Alves gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Alves in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Alves in side control lands a decent elbow.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Murasaki is trying to escape the position but Alves is controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alves in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Murasaki takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Alves just content to control the position.
Alves's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
You can see the frustration on Murasaki's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Alves in side control, just content to control the action for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Alves stands up.
Alves throws a right and a left that Murasaki avoids nicely.
Alves lands with a nice body punch.
Murasaki tries to clinch
and Alves counters with a right hand to the body.
Murasaki throws a leg kick that is checked

and Alves counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Alves.
Alves tries for a takedown. No joy.

Alves pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Murasaki uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Alves.
Alves scores with a hook.
Alves lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricardo Alves dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Shoto Murasaki's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Murasaki misses the shot to the body.
Alves jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Alves throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Murasaki is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Some bone on bone action there as Murasaki checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Alves takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Good exchange - Alves coming out on top.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alves lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.


Murasaki is rocked!
Alves lands with a big right hook that stumbles Murasaki - he's out on his feet here! Alves follows up with another monster hook that separates Murasaki from consciousness! Murasaki falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Alves stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ricardo Alves!
Ricardo Alves decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
In defeat, Shoto Murasaki stepped up to the mic, saying 'People get caught, it's not extraordinary for me. I'll be back strong.'.
