PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between JJ Barr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JM Shock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, JJ Barr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, JM Shock!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shock tries to close the distance and clinch but Barr swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Some wild striking there from Shock.
Shock throws a nice inside leg kick.
Shock throws a nice head kick!
A punch combination from Shock misses.
Barr ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shock moves away.

Barr is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Shock's half guard.

Barr seems to be working for a kimura but Shock defends the submission attempt.
Barr controlling the action here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barr seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Shock for as long as he can get away with.

Barr prevents Shock from improving his position.

Barr decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Shock moves in looking to clinch but Barr pushes him off.
Barr appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Barr circles away from the clinch attempt.

Barr closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Shock's guard.
Barr pushing down on Shock's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Barr is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Shock wants to get back to his feet.
Shock really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Barr. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Shock regains full guard. Nicely done.
Barr's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Barr decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Shock, up you get!
Shock is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A left and a right from Shock both land. Nice combination.

Barr feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Barr is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barr works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Shock is defending against the submission attempts here by Barr.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shock trying to hold on to Barr's head to control him but Barr postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shock on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

JJ Barr dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Shock throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Barr is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Shock can do to turn this around?
Barr fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Shock, right into the meat.
Shock will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Barr fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shock, pushing him back against the cage.
Barr blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Shock lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Barr drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Shock gets the underhooks and prevents it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shock misses with a knee to the head.
Barr wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Barr breaks from the clinch.

Barr gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Shock lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Shock lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Barr is looking to break free of the clinch but Shock has double underhooks.

Barr pulls guard.
Barr looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shock is one step ahead there.
Barr might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Barr pushes a forearm under Shock's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Shock is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
