PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Barton Gallagher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Maier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Daniel Maier was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Barton Gallagher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel Maier!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gallagher tries to clinch but Maier moves out of range.
No luck for Maier with that takedown attempt.
Gallagher throws a quick counter kick to the body but Maier avoids it.
Maier fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gallagher avoids it really well and circles away.
Gallagher quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Maier has a takedown stuffed.
Barton Gallagher has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Maier.

Gallagher gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maier tries to pull guard but Gallagher forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Gallagher tries to pull guard but Maier won't allow it.

Gallagher has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gallagher is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Maier's shoulder. That is not cool.

Gallagher really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Maier is looking to regain half guard here but Gallagher keeps moving and retains side control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Gallagher looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Maier is fending him off so far but Gallagher persists. Nope, Maier circles away and we're back to standing.

Maier closes the distance and pushes Gallagher back into the cage.

Maier breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Maier rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gallagher moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Maier jumps guard but Gallagher stands there with Maier around his waist. Maier gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Maier will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Gallagher looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Gallagher defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Maier.

Maier ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gallagher moves away.
Maier throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gallagher's waist but Gallagher gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Maier off to one side.
Maier avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Daniel Maier comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Maier has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
