PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jan Marchewa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Joe Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ward has chosen Aint nobody got time for dat as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that John Joe Ward was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jan Marchewa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Joe Ward!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Steve Montenegro and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Marchewa avoiding damage as Ward throws knees to the body.

Marchewa lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Ward trying to control from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ward wants to get back to full guard but Marchewa has mounted him!
Ward swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Ward tries to hold on but Marchewa pushes him away.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ward can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Marchewa is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Ward has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Marchewa is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Ward knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Ward for a finish.

Marchewa was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Ward tries to close the distance and clinch up but Marchewa swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Marchewa swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Marchewa keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Ward gets underhooks to prevent Marchewa's takedown attempt.

A frustrated look appears on Ward's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Ward jumps guard and drags Marchewa to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

John Joe Ward showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Marchewa gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Ward regains guard.
Marchewa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ward swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Ward looking for a guillotine here but Marchewa defends easily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ward takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Ward throws a low kick but Marchewa avoids it.
A counter left hand to the body from Marchewa misses its target.
Ward fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jan Marchewa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Joe Ward.
Ward moves to clinch but Marchewa breaks away
and Marchewa counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jan Marchewa showed his dominance in that final round.
