Cartwright comes to the cage accompanied by St. Anger. Cortland Cartwright has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cortland Cartwright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shaq ONeil!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yuuki Gou and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

ONeil shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cartwright napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Cartwright tries to bench press ONeil off him but ONeil keeps the position.
Cartwright is not content to let ONeil control the position.
You can see the frustration on Cartwright's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Cartwright is looking for a sweep.
Cartwright looking for a sweep but ONeil has passed into full mount! Oh no!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cartwright wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Cartwright might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cartwright turns into ONeil and is now in his guard.
ONeil has his hands on Cartwright's head, controlling the position.
ONeil preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Cartwright lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Cartwright wants to pass the guard but ONeil is keeping the position.
ONeil wants to stand and escape but Cartwright is having none of it.

Cartwright is looking for a sweep. ONeil is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
ONeil is controlling the pace.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cartwright tries to get to full guard but ONeil has control of the leg.

Cartwright is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but ONeil pulls his head out easily.
Cartwright tries to regain full guard. Instead though, ONeil has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
ONeil manages to capitalize on a mistake by Cartwright to take his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shaq ONeil dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


ONeil connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Cartwright tries to clinch but ONeil moves out of range.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cartwright enables ONeil to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cartwright manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Cartwright is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. ONeil is aware though and is defending well.

ONeil controlling the position well here. Cartwright rolled but ONeil kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
I really don't envy Cartwright right now.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cartwright is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

ONeil looking to break Cartwright's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Cartwright remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise ONeil will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

You can see the frustration on Cartwright's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Shaq ONeil showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


ONeil pivots, looking for a leg kick but Cartwright is out of range and ONeil settles back down.
Cartwright appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
ONeil connects with a body shot.
Shaq ONeil seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
ONeil comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Cartwright on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
An inside leg kick from ONeil misses.
ONeil stuffs the takedown.
Cartwright doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
ONeil connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
ONeil scores with a jab to the body.
ONeil is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
ONeil throws a leg kick which misses Cartwright's front leg but catches the back leg as Cartwright tries to avoid it.
Cartwright takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cartwright moves forwards but ONeil connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
ONeil rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cartwright moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Cartwright misses with a takedown

and ONeil counters with a crisp one two that drops Cartwright! ONeil thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Cartwright to his feet! Cartwright is in big trouble!


Cartwright is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
ONeil lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Cartwright up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs ONeil from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Cartwright's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:13 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Shaq ONeil!
In defeat, Cortland Cartwright stepped up to the mic, saying 'My opponent was a worth adversary. I will get better and come again.'.
