Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Toney Vasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Schurrel Zagreb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zagreb has chosen My Immortal as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Toney Vasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Schurrel Zagreb!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zagreb gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Vasquez to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Vasquez drops back looking for a leg! Zagreb is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Zagreb manages to kick Vasquez off! Vasquez jumps back into Zagreb's guard.
Vasquez is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Zagreb trying to keep a closed guard but Vasquez is proving a slippery customer.
Zagreb really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vasquez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Vasquez drops back looking for a leg! Zagreb is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Zagreb manages to kick Vasquez off! Vasquez jumps back into Zagreb's guard.
Vasquez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Zagreb throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Vasquez is looking to work some ground and pound but Zagreb has wrist control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Zagreb pulls out of a head kick attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Zagreb misses with a head kick.
Vasquez tries to counter with a takedown but Zagreb is quick to defend against it.
Zagreb throws a lazy head kick

and Vasquez counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Vasquez.

Vasquez gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Vasquez is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Vasquez decides to return to a standing position.

Vasquez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Vasquez showed some decent athleticism there.

Vasquez stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Zagreb.
Zagreb misses with a head kick.

Vasquez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Zagreb is fighting off a takedown attempt but Vasquez is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Zagreb to the mat. Zagreb regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Zagreb is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Vasquez gets to his feet. Zagreb looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Schurrel Zagreb seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
An inside leg kick lands from Zagreb.
Zagreb misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Zagreb has Vasquez up against the cage in a clinch.
Vasquez really is a fat lump.

Zagreb lands a takedown into guard.

Zagreb is looking to pass into half guard but Vasquez pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Vasquez is in guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Vasquez has gone for a leg lock! Zagreb slips out almost immediately though and dives into Vasquez's guard.

Zagreb looks winded!

Zagreb drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vasquez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vasquez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vasquez!

Vasquez working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Vasquez is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Zagreb has escaped the position, nice work there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Vasquez gets caught flat footed, as Zagreb shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Vasquez throws a couple of heel strikes.
Zagreb trying to control the position from guard on top but Vasquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Zagreb working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Vasquez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Zagreb's guard.

Vasquez lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vasquez stands up from Zagreb's guard - Vasquez perhaps looking for a knockout.

Vasquez moves into range and clinches up with Zagreb.

Vasquez has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Zagreb uses from the top position.

Zagreb drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Vasquez dives on top into guard.

Vasquez wants to control from the top but Zagreb keeps moving.

Vasquez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Zagreb is breathing heavily.
Vasquez sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Vasquez has taken the fight to the clinch.

Vasquez manages to pull guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Vasquez is on top in guard.

Vasquez postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Vasquez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Zagreb wants to stand up but Vasquez is controlling him.
Vasquez looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Vasquez is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Zagreb can do to turn this around?

Vasquez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Vasquez gets to his feet. Zagreb looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Zagreb feints and then cracks Vasquez's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Vasquez down.
Zagreb plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Zagreb throws a sloppy head kick and Vasquez moves out of range easily.
Zagreb lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Zagreb gets caught flat footed, as Vasquez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Vasquez gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Vasquez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Zagreb did well to prevent Vasquez getting side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Vasquez works his way into full mount!

Zagreb takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Vasquez gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Zagreb instigates a clinch.

Vasquez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Vasquez scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Vasquez working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Vasquez wants to control but Zagreb is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Toney Vasquez dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Zagreb lands a nice looking kick to the body. Vasquez takes a step back to recover.

Vasquez gets the takedown into side control.
Vasquez trying to control the position but Zagreb is working away.
Vasquez takes a little break here. Zagreb wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vasquez is trying to get an arm triangle but Zagreb is defending well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zagreb can do anything to dispel that myth.
Vasquez throwing shots but missing, from side control.

Check out the look on Vasquez's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Vasquez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Vasquez stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Zagreb scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Zagreb lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
A punch lands to the side of Vasquez 's head but he takes it in his stride.

A thudding body kick lands there by Zagreb!

Zagreb gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Vasquez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Vasquez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Vasquez gets to his feet. Zagreb looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Zagreb changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Vasquez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Zagreb tries for a kimura but Vasquez is defending well.

Vasquez is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Toney Vasquez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Vasquez gets back to full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Vasquez is on top in guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Zagreb looking for a sweep. Not yet Zagreb, not yet.
Schurrel Zagreb has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Toney Vasquez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Vasquez gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Toney Vasquez showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Vasquez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
