The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomez tries to clinch but Payton is having none of it.
Gomez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Payton fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gomez is defended easily by Payton.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Payton.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gomez has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Gomez needs to keep his hands up - Payton had a free shot at his head there.

Payton is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Gomez still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Gomez has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Payton connects with a good right hand that stumbles Gomez. Gomez circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Well Payton has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
