PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Buddy Brandon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Angle Iron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brandon comes into the arena with All Summer Long blaring out of the sound system. Iron comes into a darkened arena with his song building. I Have a Dream kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Buddy Brandon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Angle Iron!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Iron ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Brandon moves away.
Brandon throws a combination. Iron tries to block but a couple of punches get through.


It looks like Angle Iron has been cut.
Brandon ducks right into an uppercut from Iron.
Nice defenses there by Brandon.
Iron shoots for a takedown but Brandon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Iron shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Angle Iron seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Iron scores with a jab. Brandon acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Iron tries to sprawl but Brandon drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Iron wants to get back to full guard.
Iron moves into full guard.
Iron wants to sweep but no luck.
Brandon trying to control the position from guard on top but Iron is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brandon wanted to stand there but Iron had control of the position.

Iron not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Brandon sitting in guard here, content to control.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Iron cracks Brandon with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Iron works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Brandon lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Brandon ducks right into an uppercut from Iron.
Brandon ducks under a wild hook from Iron.
It looked like Brandon was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
A decent looking cross lands there for Brandon.
Iron throws a shot from downtown. Brandon moves away and avoids it.

Brandon shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Brandon showed some decent athleticism there.
Brandon is just content to waste time from the top position. Iron takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Brandon trying to control the position from guard on top but Iron is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Iron lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Brandon wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Iron trying to control but Brandon is working from the bottom.
Iron sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Brandon's guard.

Brandon avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Iron.
Iron passes to side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Iron fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brandon sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Iron missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Iron trying to mount his opponent but Brandon defends it.
Iron wants to advance to full mount but Brandon doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Iron working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Brandon has momentary wrist control but Iron slips an elbow through the middle.
Iron lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Iron tries to free his leg and advance position but Brandon is retaining full guard.
Brandon is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Iron throwing strikes from guard but Brandon blocks nicely.
Iron pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Brandon is keeping the position for now.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Angle Iron will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Angle Iron's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Iron works the jab nicely.
Brandon looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Iron is fending him off so far but Brandon persists. Nope, Iron circles away and we're back to standing.
Iron shoots in looking for a takedown but Brandon manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Iron's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Brandon swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Iron manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Brandon on his heels. He'll look to pass Brandon's guard now, I'm sure.
Brandon utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Iron pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Brandon is keeping the position for now.
Iron keeps trying to improve his position.
Iron is pushing down on Brandon's leg trying to pass to half guard. Brandon is fighting to maintain full guard but Iron has managed to sneak the leg through.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brandon wants to get back to full guard.
Iron tries to pass to full mount but Brandon defends it.
Brandon wants to control but Iron is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Iron not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Angle Iron has got the better of the ground game so far.
Iron wants to pass to mount but Brandon is defending the position.
Brandon gets full guard.
Iron is pushing down on Brandon's leg trying to pass to half guard. Brandon is fighting to maintain full guard but Iron has managed to sneak the leg through.
Brandon wants to control but Iron is keeping busy.

Iron wants to work for an arm triangle but Brandon is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Brandon wants to control but Iron is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Brandon is looking for a sweep. Iron is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Brandon is trying to maintain the position but Iron is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Brandon misses with a wild combination.
Brandon shoots in looking for a takedown but Iron manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Brandon's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Brandon cracks Iron with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Brandon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Iron but Iron pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Buddy Brandon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Iron slaps away a takedown attempt from Brandon, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Brandon ducks under a wild hook from Iron.
Iron fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Iron takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Brandon takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Iron throws a body punch but Brandon moves out of range.
Iron has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Brandon bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Iron displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Brandon.
Brandon tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Iron defends well and Brandon ends up having to push Iron into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Brandon dives in and grabs Iron's left leg, looking for a takedown. Iron pushes down on Brandon's head and hops out.
Iron goes for a double leg but Brandon avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Brandon continues to drive forward.
A jab from Brandon does it's job there.
Angle Iron seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Iron looks to land a right hand but Brandon moved out of range.
Buddy Brandon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A telegraphed right hand from Iron misses the target.
Brandon shoots in looking for a takedown. Iron tries to sprawl out of it but Brandon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Iron manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Iron.
Iron misses with a wild body shot.
Iron has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Iron has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Brandon.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Brandon.

Iron fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Iron fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Brandon avoids it really well and circles away.
Brandon tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Iron defends well and Brandon ends up having to push Iron into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Iron looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Iron looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Brandon is in trouble now - Iron has advanced to mount!
Brandon is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Iron breaks from Brandon's wrist control and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Angle Iron showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Angle Iron's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Iron throws a body punch but Brandon moves out of range.
Brandon throws a one two combo.
Iron bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Brandon's head backwards.
Iron swings away with a body shot that misses
and Brandon counters with a three punch combo that has Iron backing up. Iron nods at Brandon to acknowledge the strikes.
A chopping leg kick lands by Brandon.
Iron stuns Brandon with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Iron loads up on a big right hand but Brandon slips the punch.
An attempted straight right counter from Brandon misses the target.
Iron throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Brandon throws a right and a left that Iron avoids nicely.
Brandon goes for a double leg but Iron avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Iron continues to drive forward.
Iron looks like he wants to counter punch here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Iron throws a body shot but no joy.
Brandon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Brandon wants it to stay on the feet.
Iron changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Brandon tries to avoid it but Iron manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Brandon to the ground. Brandon escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Iron throws a body kick that misses.
Iron shoots for a double leg takedown but Brandon sprawls well. He's pushed Iron's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Buddy Brandon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Angle Iron.

Brandon decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Brandon tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Iron.
Iron is looking to improve his position.

Brandon is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Iron trying to control but Brandon postures up.
Iron missing with punches from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Brandon lands a nice short elbow.
Iron regains full guard. Nicely done.
Brandon preventing the sweep.
Brandon is looking to stand up but Iron won't let him.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Brandon accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Iron throws out a loose jab but Brandon uses good head movement to avoid it.
Iron fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Iron misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brandon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Brandon will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Brandon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Iron paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Iron looks to throw the jab but Brandon is out of range.
Iron keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Iron fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Brandon manages to avoid it.
Brandon appears to be looking for a big counter.
Iron misses with a body shot.
Angle Iron is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Brandon looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Buddy Brandon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Brandon avoids the body shot from Iron.
Brandon throws a half hearted mid kick.
Brandon dives in for a single leg takedown but Iron sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Brandon uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Iron.
Brandon darts in looking for a takedown but Iron gets double underhooks and turns Brandon into the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Iron keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Iron jabs at Brandon's body.
Brandon moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Iron stuffs the takedown attempt from Brandon. Brandon gets slowly back to his feet.
Iron wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Iron drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Brandon tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Brandon seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Iron is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Angle Iron.
Well Iron has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
