PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alberto Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rogan Redban (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Alberto Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rogan Redban!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yukihiro Shimada and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Redban looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Sanchez thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Redban really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sanchez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Redban avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Redban must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sanchez trying to keep a closed guard but Redban is proving a slippery customer.

Redban looks to land a combination. Sanchez sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Redban misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Redban stuffs the takedown attempt from Sanchez. Sanchez gets slowly back to his feet.
Sanchez goes for a double leg but Redban avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Redban continues to drive forward.

Redban shoots in for a double leg but Sanchez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Redban rushes Sanchez and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Sanchez wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Sanchez is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Redban is defending well.
Sanchez jumps guard but Redban turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Redban lands a right hand.

Redban has picked Sanchez up - he's going for a ride! Redban dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Redban is looking for a kimura but Sanchez is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Redban to get the leverage.
Redban wants to pass the guard but Sanchez is defending well.
Sanchez looks like he's trying to stand up.
Sanchez tries to roll over but Redban keeps him under control.

Sanchez is trying to maintain the position but Redban is very close to passing his half guard.
Redban not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Redban is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Sanchez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Sanchez tries to keep at a distance but Redban has taken the fight into the clinch.
Redban prevents a takedown attempt there.
Sanchez is breathing heavily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sanchez drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Redban wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Sanchez keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Redban's efforts to push away.
Redban has Sanchez pressed against the cage.
Redban stops a takedown attempt from Sanchez.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sanchez jumps guard but Redban stands there with Sanchez around his waist. Sanchez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Redban tries to break free but Sanchez pushes him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rogan Redban dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Redban is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Sanchez trying to control the position but instead, Redban has worked for underhooks and has pushed Sanchez into the cage.

Redban has Sanchez pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Redban pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Sanchez tumbling to the mat - Redban dives into Sanchez's guard.

Redban has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sanchez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sanchez is trying to control. Redban wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Sanchez blocks the strikes from Redban.
Sanchez wants to stand up but Redban is controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Redban closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Still in half guard, Redban seems content to control.

Redban is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Redban throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Redban is taking a breather. Sanchez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Sanchez trying to control but Redban postures up.
Redban wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sanchez keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Redban is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sanchez sees it coming and defends easily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sanchez has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rogan Redban showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Sanchez tries to clinch there but Redban circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Redban. No joy for Sanchez on that attempt.
Sanchez shoots in for a takedown but Redban shows good takedown defense.

Redban feints and as Sanchez raises his hands in defense, Redban changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

and Redban counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Redban.
Redban gets underhooks to prevent Sanchez's takedown attempt.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Redban takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Redban has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sanchez uses from the top position.
Sanchez works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Redban wants to improve his position but Sanchez is controlling well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Redban can do anything to dispel that myth.

Redban is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Sanchez's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Sanchez's back!
Redban is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Redban tries to keep control of the position but Sanchez is staying busy.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Redban is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Sanchez is defending well though. Redban let's go of the attempt for now.

Rogan Redban comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Redban has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
