PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Matt Morris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Colston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Morris comes into the arena with Prong - Snap your fingers, snap your neck blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Morris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Colston!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morris has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Colston finds it's way round the side to connect with Morris's head.

Morris gets caught flat footed, as Colston shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Colston postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Colston really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Morris. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Morris is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Colston throws a big elbow that misses.
Colston throws a strike but Morris rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Colston is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Colston lands a nice short elbow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Colston looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Morris with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Morris slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Colston connects with a couple of short punches.
Colston postures up in Morris's guard and throws a big left but Morris blocks it.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Colston's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Morris is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Colston chips away with some ground and pound.
Colston keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Morris's head.
Colston connects with a couple of short punches.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Colston accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Morris trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Colston stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Morris swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Morris is trying to keep Colston in close.
Morris is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Colston is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Morris utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Colston trying to control but Morris is working from the bottom.
Colston is working Morris over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Morris is on top in guard.

Colston bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Morris's guard.

Morris is pushing down on Colston's leg trying to pass to half guard. Colston is fighting to maintain full guard but Morris has managed to sneak the leg through.

Colston tries to roll over but Morris keeps him under control.

Colston lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.
Colston trying to get back to full guard but Morris takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Morris landing strikes from the mount and Colston is in trouble!
Colston regains half guard.
Morris missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Colston keeping hold of Morris's head, controlling as best he can.
Morris wants to control but Colston is keeping him busy.
Colston wants to get back to full guard.

Colston makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Colston.
Colston striking off his back, scoring a few points.
Colston is trying to hold Morris in close to prevent damage but Morris has managed to pass into half guard.
Colston works his way to full guard. Good work.
Colston looking for a sweep. Not yet Colston, not yet.
Colston wants to stand up but Morris is controlling him.
Morris tries to free his leg and advance position but Colston is retaining full guard.
Colston throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Colston wants to sweep but no luck.
Colston pulls Morris in to control the position.
Morris with a flurry of punches that miss.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Colston dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Colston throws a body shot but no joy.
Morris throws a big counter combination but Colston scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Morris misses with the combination.
Colston with the counter takedown but Morris avoids it easily.
Morris avoids the body shot from Colston.
Morris feints and then cracks Colston's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Colston down.
Morris is looking to clinch.
Morris lands with a good body shot.
Matt Morris is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Morris takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Colston throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Morris stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Morris keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
As Colston looks to move away, Morris throws a big counter combo bu Colston just gets out of the way.

Colston connects with a nice looking jab.
Morris closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Morris wants to clinch up but Colston keeps it at a distance.
Morris loads up on a big right hand but Colston slips the punch.
Colston thuds a left hand into Morris's body.
Colston slips a jab from Morris.
Morris rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Colston counters with a single leg into guard. Morris didn't expect that.
Colston wants to control from the top but Morris keeps moving.
Colston connects with a couple of short punches.
Colston throwing strikes but missing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Morris tries to strike from the bottom.
Morris has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Colston trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Morris is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Morris is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Colston frees his head nicely. Oh but Morris has switched to an armbar! Colston is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Matt Morris!
Matt Morris decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
