Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Samuel Alvarado! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Benito Acero! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Ben Watson and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Acero moves into range and clinches up with Alvarado. Acero softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Acero gets underhooks to prevent Alvarado's takedown attempt.
Acero lands a right hand. Alvarado is trying to pull guard but Acero has him pressed against the cage. Acero lands a hook to the side of the head. Acero escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Acero closes the distance and pushes Alvarado back into the cage. Alvarado really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Acero breaks the clinch.
Alvarado closes the distance and clinches up with Acero, looking for a takedown. Alvarado pushes Acero against the cage but Acero circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Samuel Alvarado. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alvarado tries to keep at a distance but Acero has taken the fight into the clinch. Acero's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Acero clinches up against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Acero gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Alvarado has one foot on Acero's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Acero takes the fight into the clinch. Acero lands with a short shot to the head. Acero gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Acero must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Acero would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Alvarado is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Acero has gone for a leg lock! Alvarado slips out almost immediately though and dives into Acero's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alvarado throwing strikes but missing. Alvarado engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Alvarado will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Acero controls Alvarado momentarily but Alvarado frees himself. Alvarado is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Acero pushes Alvarado off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Acero clinches up against the cage. Alvarado successfully pulls guard.
Acero stands up and waves to Alvarado to follow him. Acero drives through and clinches with Alvarado against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alvarado is looking to take this one to the mat. Acero gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Alvarado regains guard.
Alvarado wriggles free and stands up. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Acero gets a clinch. Acero working Alvarado over with knees to the body. Acero lands an elbow inside that Alvarado shrugs off. Acero missing with knees to the body.
Acero lands a right hand that snaps the head of Alvarado backwards. Acero gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Acero looking to sit in guard and control but Alvarado gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Benito Acero dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Acero misses with a two punch combination.
Acero closes the distance and lands a one-two. Acero gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Acero connects with a nasty looking knee right to Alvarado's face.
It looks like Samuel Alvarado has been cut. A bit of stalling here from Alvarado.
Acero prevents a takedown attempt there.
Acero scores with a shot to the side of Alvarado's head.
Alvarado is rocked! Acero gets through Alvarado's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Oh Alvarado is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Acero slows down the pace here.
Acero pushes Alvarado against the cage. Acero is working some dirty boxing. Acero pushes off with a quick right hook! Alvarado goes down! Alvarado tries to stand but stumbles back to his kness! Acero moves in to finish and the ref steps in to prevent any more damage!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Benito Acero! A relieved looking Benito Acero thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
