The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maeda slips a straight right by Spencer.
Maeda throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Spencer on the side of the head.
Nice uppercut there from Spencer.
Spencer is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Spencer throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Maeda comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Spencer takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

and Spencer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Spencer is on top in guard.

Maeda displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Spencer throws out the jab.

Maeda shoots in looking for a takedown. Spencer tries to sprawl out of it but Maeda keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Spencer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Spencer misses with a double jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Maeda shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Maeda was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Maeda connects with a nice short shot to Spencer's temple.

Spencer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Maeda has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Spencer has managed to get both his arms back between Maeda's legs - danger averted.
Maeda is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
