Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jonny Jon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Shipwreck! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jon has taken the fight to the clinch.
Jon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Jon displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Shipwreck. Jon scores with a nice head shot. Jon closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Shipwreck as Jon tries to tie him up. Jon decides to pull guard. Shipwreck is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jon is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jon has escaped and now he's on top! Jon wanted to stand there but Shipwreck had control of the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jon has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shipwreck has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Jon pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shipwreck is keeping the position for now. Shipwreck working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jon doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jon manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Jon trying to control but Shipwreck is working from the bottom. Shipwreck looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Shipwreck throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shipwreck is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jon is aware though and is defending well. Shipwreck looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Jon is defending well. Shipwreck quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Jon has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Shipwreck celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
