Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 29 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Leo Vieira! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Emunn Samvesu! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Samvesu moves out of range of the body kick from Vieira.
Sloppy strikes from Vieira. Those never looked like landing. And Samvesu tries to counter it with a takedown but Vieira pushes his down on his head and steps out. Vieira is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Vieira misses with a two punch combination.

and Samvesu decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Vieira's guard. Samvesu drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vieira looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vieira looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vieira! Samvesu is looking to regain half guard here but Vieira keeps moving and retains side control. Vieira wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Samvesu, who protects the arm well. Vieira passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Samvesu!
That's one minute gone in the round. Samvesu wants to control but Vieira is having none of it. Vieira looking for a guillotine from mount but Samvesu is having none of it. Vieira working for a submission but Samvesu is keeping him at bay. Vieira looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Vieira goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Samvesu turns into him and now he's in Vieira's guard.
Vieira looking to hit a scissor sweep but Samvesu is one step ahead there. Samvesu is stalling in the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Samvesu trying to control the position from guard on top but Vieira is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Samvesu trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Vieira working a defensive guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Samvesu has gone for a leg lock! Vieira slips out almost immediately though and dives into Samvesu's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Samvesu is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Vieira will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Samvesu looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Vieira is avoiding damage well.
Vieira regains half guard there - taking advantage of Samvesu's attempt to lay and pray for a moment. Samvesu throwing shots but Vieira is blocking nicely. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Vieira is staying active underneath Samvesu, who seems content to just control the action from this position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Leo Vieira will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Samvesu fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Vieira delivers a nice body kick. Samvesu on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Samvesu shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Vieira defends it nicely. Samvesu tries to close the distance and clinch but Vieira swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Vieira lands a jab to Samvesu's midsection. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vieira stuffs the takedown attempt from Samvesu. Samvesu gets slowly back to his feet. Leo Vieira has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Emunn Samvesu. Vieira throws a body shot but no joy. Samvesu tries to counter with a clinch but Vieira shakes him off and moves away. Vieira with a body punch. A glancing blow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Vieira. And Samvesu tries to counter it with a takedown but Vieira pushes his down on his head and steps out. Vieira misses with an attempted mid kick.

and Samvesu counters with a shoot takedown. Vieira fights it but they end up in guard. Vieira wants to sweep but no luck. Samvesu trying to move into half guard but instead Vieira has managed to sweep!
Vieira drops back looking for a leg! Samvesu is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Samvesu manages to kick Vieira off! Vieira jumps back into Samvesu's guard. Samvesu throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Samvesu working for a triangle but Vieira defends it easily.
Samvesu looking for a sweep. Not yet Samvesu, not yet. Vieira is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Samvesu working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vieira doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vieira manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Samvesu is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Vieira is aware though and is defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vieira drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Samvesu dives on top into guard. Samvesu wants to control from the top but Vieira keeps moving. Samvesu sitting in guard here, content to control. Vieira might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Samvesu is looking to advance position but Vieira has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Samvesu is trying desperately to improve position. Vieira is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Samvesu can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Vieira has control of Samvesu's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Samvesu regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Samvesu regains half guard. Vieira is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Samvesu can do to turn this around? The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Samvesu gets full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Leo Vieira dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Vieira stalks Samvesu and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Samvesu's face. Samvesu staggers backwards, shaken. Samvesu misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Vieira swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A head kick misses from Vieira. Samvesu throws a counter combo. Samvesu takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Samvesu feints the counter takedown. Vieira moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vieira lands a nice shot to the body.
Vieira moves into range and clinches up with Samvesu. Samvesu changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Vieira fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Vieira throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Samvesu has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vieira misses with a head kick.
Samvesu sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Vieira throws a series of strikes that have Samvesu backpedaling.
Vieira throws a lazy head kick and Samvesu moves into the clinch. Samvesu gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Vieira regains guard.
Samvesu looking to sit in guard and control but Vieira gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Vieira trying to control but Samvesu is working from the bottom. Vieira is really struggling to control Samvesu but he's trying to hold on to the position. Samvesu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vieira drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Samvesu manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Vieira has Samvesu in his guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Samvesu trying to control the position from guard on top but Vieira is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Leo Vieira is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Vieira looking to hit a scissor sweep but Samvesu is one step ahead there. Emunn Samvesu has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vieira not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Samvesu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vieira swivels though and keeps the full guard. Samvesu looking to sit in guard and control but Vieira gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Vieira's corner is telling him to maintain position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Samvesu is trying to keep Vieira in close.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Vieira won't allow Samvesu to sweep him here. Samvesu had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Vieira defends it easily. Vieira trying to control the position from guard on top but Samvesu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Samvesu has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vieira can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Samvesu looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Emunn Samvesu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Samvesu is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Vieira is aware though and is defending well.
And that's the end of the fight! Leo Vieira showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Vieira, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
