Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Raul Gonzales! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Oscar Tate! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tate looks to land a combination but Gonzales avoids it well. A punch combination from Tate misses. Gonzales drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Gonzales advances to half guard. Gonzales is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tate doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gonzales. Gonzales trying to control the action but Tate is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gonzales prevents Tate from standing back up.
Gonzales really is a fat lump. Tate tries to get to full guard but Gonzales has control of the leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tate actively working from the bottom here. Gonzales trying to control from half guard but Tate is working away. Tate is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Gonzales is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Gonzales is trying to control the action in half guard but Tate is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Gonzales is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tate doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gonzales.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Tate is not content to let Gonzales control the position. Tate is looking for a sweep. Gonzales is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Gonzales is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Tate is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Raul Gonzales! A relieved looking Raul Gonzales thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
