1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dieter Rushnakov! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Vladimir Khabensky and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Welles bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Rushnakov stops Welles from passing to mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Welles works to advance to full mount. Rushnakov defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Welles jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Rushnakov manages to avoid the submission attempt. Welles is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rushnakov is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Rushnakov looks gassed! Welles is trying to land an Americana.
