Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Diego Nunes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Spanky Spangler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spangler has chosen WHITE LIGHTNING-by AB as his entrance music. Spanky Spangler has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Diego Nunes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Spanky Spangler! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Spangler slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Nunes throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Spangler gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Nunes to score an easy takedown into full guard. Spangler is looking to stand up but Nunes isn't so interested in that idea. Nunes looking to pass the guard. Nunes in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Nunes trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nunes throws a big right hand that misses. Spangler really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nunes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Spangler is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Nunes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Spangler is keeping the position for now. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Spangler can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Spangler looking for a sweep. Not yet Spangler, not yet. Spangler is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Nunes throws a big elbow that misses. Spangler looking for a sweep. Not yet Spangler, not yet. Nunes postures up and lands a big shot to Spangler's brow. Nunes stands and steps away. Spangler gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Nunes tries to score a power double leg takedown but Spangler sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nunes somewhat. Spangler has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Nunes is landing a low percentage of strikes. Diego Nunes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nunes throws a hook but Spangler blocks it. Nunes throws a series of punches but Spangler avoids them all with ease. Spangler moves out of range as Nunes strikes. Despite the aggression on Spangler's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Spanky Spangler is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nunes on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Nunes throws a left and a right that both miss
and Spangler counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Spangler throws a series of punches but Nunes moves out of range. Nunes tries to move into range but Spangler moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Nunes misses with the combination.
Nunes throws out a loose jab but Spangler uses good head movement to avoid it. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Spangler! But no joy. Nunes lands a nice shot to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nunes fails with the takedown. Nunes takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nunes throws a right and a left that both miss. Spangler stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. A jab from Spangler finds it's way through Nunes's defenses. Nunes fails with the takedown and Spangler counters with a right hand to the body. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Diego Nunes. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nunes is breathing heavily. Nunes misses with a straight right. Nunes shoots in but no luck this time. Spangler fails to land with a series of punches.
Spangler scores with a hook. Spangler cracks Nunes with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Spangler has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Nunes to stand back up!
Nunes is rocked! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Nunes takes a swing at Spangler's ribcage but misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Spangler connects with a body shot. Spangler slips a jab and a cross from Nunes.
Spangler swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Spangler connects with a right hand. Nunes shakes it off. Spangler lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Nunes circles away quickly and effectively. Spangler drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Nunes right on the button. Nunes goes down! Spangler follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Spangler gets the win via TKO!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Spanky Spangler! In his post fight interview, Spanky Spangler started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
