Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexandr Kuznetsov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tetsuya Tate! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Viktor Lagutenko and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tate ducks under a wild hook from Kuznetsov. Tate drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Tate throwing shots but missing, from side control. Kuznetsov wants to get back to his feet but Tate drags him back down. Kuznetsov regains half guard there - taking advantage of Tate's attempt to lay and pray for a moment. Tate throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kuznetsov has his hands clasped together around Tate's back. He's all about the action. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tate missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tate wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kuznetsov keeps working. Tate throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Tate is trying to control. Kuznetsov wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. No luck with that takedown attempt from Tate. Tate fails to land the takedown. Tate gets the takedown into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kuznetsov tries to improve position but can't. Kuznetsov is not content to let Tate control the position. Tate laying and praying for a moment but Kuznetsov takes advantage and regains half guard. Kuznetsov is refusing to be controlled, as Tate sits in half guard. Kuznetsov keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tate thows a huge punch but Kuznetsov dodges it nicely.
Tate throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Tate not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Tate wants to control but Kuznetsov is keeping him busy. Tate has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Tate tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Kuznetsov.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Kuznetsov slaps away a takedown attempt from Tate, before circling back to the center of the mat. Kuznetsov was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Kuznetsov looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Alexandr Kuznetsov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tetsuya Tate. Tate looks for a takedown but Kuznetsov sprawls well. Kuznetsov dips down and scores with a jab to the body. A telegraphed right hand from Kuznetsov misses the target. Tate tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kuznetsov defends well and Tate ends up having to push Kuznetsov into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Tate shoots in for a takedown but Kuznetsov shows good takedown defense. Alexandr Kuznetsov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

No luck for Tate with that takedown attempt. Tate slips under a jab. Tate drives through with a takedown into Kuznetsov's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Kuznetsov managing to control the position. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tate accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Tate is looking to pass into half guard but Kuznetsov pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Kuznetsov is in guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Kuznetsov postures up in Tate's guard and throws a big left but Tate blocks it. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kuznetsov trying to control but Tate is working from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Tetsuya Tate will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Horrible takedown attempt by Tate or perhaps it was just good defense by Kuznetsov, which made it look bad. Tetsuya Tate is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Kuznetsov throws a body punch but Tate moves out of range. Kuznetsov throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Tate stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Tate fails with a takedown attempt. Kuznetsov smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Tate fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kuznetsov avoids it really well and circles away. Kuznetsov thows a body kick. Tate tries to catch it but that hurt him. No luck for Tate with that takedown attempt. Kuznetsov is looking to counter with a body kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheers as Kuznetsov lands an impressive looking overhand right. Tate doesn't seem phased though. Kuznetsov scores with a jab. Kuznetsov scores with a decent looking hook. Tate fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Alexandr Kuznetsov is winning the standup battle so far. Tate shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Tate is breathing heavily. Kuznetsov gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Tate trying to control but Kuznetsov is working from the bottom. My spies in St Petersburg MMA Gym inform me that Tate has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Kuznetsov pulls Tate in close to prevent any damage. The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Tate takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Kuznetsov keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Tate gets tackled into the cage by Kuznetsov. Kuznetsov maintains the clinch. Kuznetsov lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. Kuznetsov stalling against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Kuznetsov creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Tate is rocked! Tate has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kuznetsov is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Tate is still on wobbly legs! Can Kuznetsov finish him? Kuznetsov stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Tate is working for takedown but Kuznetsov is calmly controlling the position for now. Tate seems to have recovered his senses. Kuznetsov looking to slow down the pace here. Tate goes for a takedown attempt but Kuznetsov pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Tate takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Kuznetsov works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kuznetsov drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Tate right on the button. Tate goes down! Kuznetsov follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Kuznetsov gets the win via TKO!
