Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Alaniz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bernt Albertsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alaniz kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Beck - Loser . Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Charlie Alaniz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Bernt Albertsson! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Viktor Lagutenko and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alaniz has a takedown stuffed. Alaniz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Albertsson will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Alaniz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Albertsson moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Alaniz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Alaniz is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Albertsson pushes Alaniz off looking to stand but Alaniz dives back in and keeps control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alaniz is looking to advance position but Albertsson won't allow it. Albertsson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alaniz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Albertsson keeping control of the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alaniz throwing shots but Albertsson is blocking nicely. Alaniz throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Alaniz is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Albertsson has managed to free his arm - good work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Albertsson avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Alaniz. Alaniz is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Albertsson is just riding it out for now. Alaniz eventually gives up the hold. Alaniz looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Alaniz sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Albertsson defending well though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Alaniz is looking for a kimura but Albertsson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Alaniz to get the leverage. Albertsson trying to hold on to Alaniz's head to control him but Alaniz postures up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Alaniz thows a huge punch but Albertsson dodges it nicely.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Albertsson is looking to score with low kicks. A nice inside leg kick there by Albertsson. That's going to slow Alaniz down. Alaniz gets in close and instigates a clinch. Alaniz can't get the takedown.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Albertsson trying to control the position from guard on top but Alaniz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Alaniz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Alaniz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Alaniz wants to stand up but Albertsson is controlling him.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alaniz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Albertsson can do to turn this around? A right-left combo lands from Albertsson. Albertsson uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Albertsson walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Alaniz checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Albertsson throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Albertsson's corner calls for a 1-2. Albertsson obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Albertsson throws a low kick but Alaniz moves out of range easily. As Albertsson tries to get set, Alaniz tries to push him back and clinch up but Albertsson manages to avoid the attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alaniz looks to land a body kick but Albertsson moved away. Alaniz pulls out of a head kick attempt.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Albertsson! But no joy. Alaniz keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Albertsson. Alaniz on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Albertsson ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Albertsson does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Albertsson lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Alaniz throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Albertsson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Albertsson punishes Alaniz's body with a nice straight punch. Alaniz lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
It looks like Bernt Albertsson has been cut. A telegraphed right hand from Albertsson misses the target. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Albertsson tried to score with a low kick but Alaniz checks it. Alaniz tries to move into range but Albertsson moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Bernt Albertsson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Albertsson misses with a looping left. Alaniz lands with a good body shot. A decent looking cross lands there for Alaniz. Albertsson throws a body shot but no joy.

Possibly, maybe, no Alaniz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Albertsson avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Alaniz. Albertsson is looking for a sweep.

He has the arm isolated but Albertsson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Alaniz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Alaniz is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Albertsson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Alaniz stands up and we're back to a striking position. Albertsson misses with a low kick as Alaniz jumps back. Albertsson loads up on a big right hand but Alaniz slips the punch. Alaniz shoots in for a double leg but Albertsson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Alaniz has a takedown stuffed. Alaniz keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Alaniz makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Albertsson is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Alaniz postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Alaniz drops back looking for a leg! Albertsson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Albertsson manages to kick Alaniz off! Alaniz jumps back into Albertsson's guard.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Alaniz closes the distance and pushes Albertsson back into the cage. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Albertsson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Albertsson breaks from the clinch.
