PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Damien Brock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jace Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Damien Brock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jace Armstrong!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Topper Green and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Armstrong shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Armstrong showed some decent athleticism there.
Armstrong trying to pass the guard but Brock defending well.
Brock wants to control but Armstrong is keeping busy.
Brock is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brock is looking to control Armstrong's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Brock avoid being mounted?
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Armstrong thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Brock's head.
Armstrong is pressing down on Brock's thigh, looking to free his foot. Brock is holding on for now.
Armstrong is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Brock is trying to get back to full guard.

Armstrong is looking to take a break and control but Brock is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Armstrong slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Brock trying to keep a closed guard but Armstrong is proving a slippery customer.
Brock is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Armstrong looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Brock holds on and takes a little breather.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Jace Armstrong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Armstrong manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Brock on his heels. He'll look to pass Brock's guard now, I'm sure.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Brock wants to stand up but Armstrong is controlling him.
Armstrong with a flurry of punches that miss.

Brock keeping moving, preventing Armstrong from controlling successfully.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Brock is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Armstrong wants to get up but he can't break Brock's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Jace Armstrong dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Brock tries for a takedown but Armstrong sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Armstrong drives through with a takedown into Brock's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Armstrong is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Armstrong escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Brock gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Armstrong not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Armstrong looking for a guillotine here but Brock defends easily.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Armstrong has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Brock postures up in Armstrong's guard and throws a big left but Armstrong blocks it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Armstrong fails to land with a series of punches.
Brock wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Armstrong clinches up against the cage.

Armstrong gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Brock regains guard.
Brock is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Brock is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Armstrong is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Brock holds on and takes a little breather.

Armstrong wants to control from the top but Brock keeps moving.
Brock not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Brock seems keen to control Armstrong's posture.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Brock gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Armstrong to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Jace Armstrong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Brock will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Armstrong gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Brock tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Armstrong smiles and moves away.

Armstrong clinches up against the cage.

Armstrong escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Damien Brock is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brock has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Armstrong finds it's way round the side to connect with Brock's head.


It looks like Damien Brock has been cut.
Armstrong throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Armstrong fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Brock, pushing him back against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Armstrong successfully pulls guard.

Armstrong has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Brock is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Armstrong.
Armstrong tries to escape but Brock is in control.
Armstrong manages to get back to half guard.
Armstrong trying to hold on to Brock's head to control him but Brock postures up.
Armstrong tries to get to full guard but Brock has control of the leg.

Brock not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Armstrong trying to control but Brock postures up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Armstrong can do anything to dispel that myth.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Brock tries to keep at a distance but Armstrong has taken the fight into the clinch.

Armstrong gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Brock.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Damien Brock. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Armstrong turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Armstrong cracks Brock with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Armstrong tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Brock sneaks back into half guard.
Brock is concentrating on defense, preventing Armstrong from advancing position.

Brock is trying to control but Armstrong passes into side control!
Armstrong is looking to take a break and control but Brock is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Armstrong is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Brock is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Jace Armstrong comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Armstrong has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
