Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fabio Villegas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Claudio Demaestri! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Ren Mimura and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Demaestri bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Villegas's head.
It looks like Fabio Villegas has been cut. Demaestri misses with a straight right. Demaestri uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Villegas. Demaestri moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Demaestri just misses with a punch to the body.
Villegas jabbing away but nothing is landing. Demaestri throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Demaestri scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Villegas ducks under a wild hook from Demaestri. Villegas ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Demaestri moves away. Villegas swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Demaestri is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Villegas with a body shot. Demaestri takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
This has been an exciting period of action! Demaestri throws a shot to the body.
Villegas walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Demaestri uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Villegas.
Villegas ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
That's one minute gone in the round. Villegas throws a hook but Demaestri avoids it easily. Villegas takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Demaestri has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Demaestri ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Villegas ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Demaestri moves away. Villegas staying out of range there. Villegas throws an overhand right that lands on Demaestri's shoulder, as Demaestri tries to avoid the shot. Demaestri cracks a nice hook into Villegas's ribs. Demaestri is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Villegas takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Nice defenses there by Villegas. Demaestri throws a looping overhand right but Villegas ducks down to avoid it. Demaestri lands with an uppercut that bounces Villegas off the cage and back into range. Villegas misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Demaestri.
Villegas uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Demaestri.
Villegas tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Demaestri manages to circle out of the way. Villegas slips a jab and a cross from Demaestri.
Villegas went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Demaestri drops his hands momentarily and Villegas takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Villegas scores with a jab to the head.
Demaestri is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Demaestri thuds his right hand into Villegas's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. A lazy left from Demaestri finds it's target. Today's fight clock is brought to you by... OOOH that's a huge shot by Demaestri! Villegas is in big trouble here - the ref steps in to save him and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Claudio Demaestri! Claudio Demaestri decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
