PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Royce Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Borcha Ridicully (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Borcha Ridicully is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Royce Turner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Borcha Ridicully!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ridicully fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Turner, pushing him back against the cage.
Turner wants a takedown.

Ridicully turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Ridicully manages to end up in side control.
Ridicully tries to advance to mount but Turner denies him.
Ridicully is putting a hurting on Turner here, landing some big shots from side control.
Ridicully is staying tight to Turner's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Ridicully wants to stand but Turner has his arm trapped.
Turner could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Turner is trying to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ridicully happy to just control the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Turner regains half guard.

Ridicully wants to get back to his feet.
Ridicully is controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Turner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ridicully is working away from the top position though.

Ridicully is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Turner has managed to free his arm - good work.
Turner trying to control but Ridicully postures up.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The fighters are battling for position here. Turner manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Turner looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ridicully is one step ahead there.

Turner is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Ridicully drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ridicully controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Turner is trying to control the position but Ridicully postures up.
Ridicully sitting in guard here, content to control.
Ridicully is looking to stand up but Turner won't let him.

Turner tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Ridicully throws a big right hand that misses.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Turner is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Ridicully drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Turner trying to remain calm as Ridicully controls from the top position.
Turner looking for a sweep but Ridicully has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ridicully connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Turner working to try and regain half guard.
Ridicully with shots to the head and body - Turner looks very uncomfortable down there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Borcha Ridicully dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Turner checks the leg kick nicely there.
Turner seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Ridicully keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ridicully misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ridicully shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Turner sprawls well. Turner wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ridicully gets slowly back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Turner changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ridicully tries to avoid it but Turner manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ridicully to the ground. Ridicully escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Ridicully takes the fight into the clinch.
Turner is working for takedown but Ridicully is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Royce Turner. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ridicully lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Ridicully is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Turner is looking for a sweep. Ridicully is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ridicully not doing much here.
Let's hope that Ridicully has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Ridicully is working for a kimura but Turner is defending it quite comfortably.

Turner wants to control but Ridicully is keeping busy.
Ridicully is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Ridicully with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Turner wants to control but Ridicully is keeping busy and won't allow it.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Ridicully wants to free his trapped foot but Turner is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Ridicully frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Ridicully lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Ridicully has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Turner is in all sorts of trouble here.
Ridicully tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Turner is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Turner wants to hold on but Ridicully pushes him away.
Ridicully lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ridicully is landing with some decent strikes but Turner is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Turner keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Ridicully looking to control and managing it successfully.

Ridicully is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Turner can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ridicully takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Borcha Ridicully showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Turner's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Ridicully takes the fight into the clinch.

Ridicully escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Turner tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ridicully sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Turner somewhat.
Despite the aggression on Ridicully's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Turner fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ridicully to the ground. Turner is now in Ridicully's guard.
Ridicully keeping moving, preventing Turner from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ridicully is pulling down on Turner's head. It's preventing any offense from Turner, at least for the moment.

Turner avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Ridicully looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Ridicully pulls Turner in to control the position.
Turner trying to control the position from guard on top but Ridicully is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ridicully is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Turner is controlling him.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Turner throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Turner shoots in for a double leg but Ridicully sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Ridicully drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ridicully remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Turner wants to get back to his feet but Ridicully is dominant here and he's now got Turner's back!
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Ridicully is continuing to stall.
Ridicully's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ridicully is not going to allow Turner to sit and survive in this position.
You can see the frustration on Turner's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Ridicully is working the ground and pound. Can Turner escape?

Borcha Ridicully comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ridicully has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
