The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James lands a left and a right that sends Cruz crashing to the canvas! James dives into mount looking to finish!

It looks like Tofano Cruz has been cut.
Cruz tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cruz manages to reverse the position and now he's in James's guard. Nice work there by Cruz.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cruz looking to sit in guard and control but James gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cruz is on top in guard.
James wants to get back to his feet but Cruz is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Cruz keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of James's head.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Cruz walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
James throws a right and a left that Cruz avoids nicely.
Cruz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but James swivels and escapes.
James lands a slapping body shot.

A punch combination from Cruz misses.
Cruz dances in with a quick combination. James is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Cruz snaps James's head back. James stumbles backwards against the cage. Cruz steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with James's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. James just didn't come prepared.
