Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
55 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Timothy Bourque! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
27 - 12 - 1, fighting out of New York, Joe Frazier! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bourque staying out of range there. We've been informed that Frazier has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Frazier throws a big shot that misses. Bourque drops Frazier with a beautiful combination! Frazier stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Bourque is looking for the KO!
It looks like Joe Frazier has been cut. A big right from Frazier misses. Bourque fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Frazier manages to avoid it. Frazier with a jab.
It looks like Timothy Bourque has been cut. Frazier looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Bourque throws a big counter combination but Frazier scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Bourque moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bourque throws a lazy right hand but Frazier sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. A countering left hand to the body from Frazier misses. Oooooh!!! Bourque has knocked Frazier down with a huge combo! Bourque steps away and waves a wobbly Frazier back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Frazier is rocked! A slow jab from Frazier misses its intended target. Frazier is still on wobbly legs! Can Bourque finish him? Bourque feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Frazier sprawling to the canvas! Frazier rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Bourque finish him?!
Bourque throws a big shot that misses. Frazier follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land. Frazier seems to have recovered his senses. Bourque uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Frazier.
That's one minute gone in the round. Frazier throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Frazier takes a swing at Bourque's ribcage but misses. Frazier connects with an inside leg kick. Frazier throws out a loose jab but Bourque uses good head movement to avoid it. Bourque steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Frazier. A kick lands to the mid section there for Frazier. Bourque throws the left hand but Frazier avoids the punch easily. Bourque lands a left and a right that send Frazier crashing to the mat, dazed. Bourque thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Frazier misses with an uppercut. Nice straight punches there by Frazier. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Frazier. Frazier throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Frazier lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Bourque takes a swing at Frazier's ribcage but misses. Frazier let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Good exchange - Frazier coming out on top.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bourque ducks right into an uppercut from Frazier. Frazier bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Bourque closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Frazier blocks a head kick by Bourque.
Bourque blocks the body kick.
Frazier lands with an uppercut that bounces Bourque off the cage and back into range. Bourque dodges the punch combination from Frazier.
Bourque looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit. Frazier throws a shot from downtown. Bourque moves away and avoids it. Crunch! Bourque slams his shin into Frazier's torso. Bourque is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight. Frazier pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Bourque swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Frazier scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. A looping hook to the body misses from Bourque. Frazier does a little dance to reset his feet. Frazier lands a hook that stumbles Bourque back into the cage. Frazier follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping Bourque to the canvas! Frazier pounces and lands several unanswered shots - Bourque has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Joe Frazier! Joe Frazier is the new heavyweight champion! Joe Frazier decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
