The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Emerson Jorge and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Werdum fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cooper avoids it really well and circles away.
Werdum moves in looking to clinch but Cooper pushes him off.
Cooper throws a counter high kick but Werdum was just alert enough to avoid it.
Werdum goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Werdum scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Cooper is trying to control but can't.
Cooper is staying active underneath Werdum, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Werdum is trying to work for a kimura but Cooper is defending well.

Werdum shoots for a double leg takedown but Cooper sprawls well. He's pushed Werdum's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Cooper is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Werdum asserts his dominance and retains side control.
