Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kane Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rufus Shepherd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Miller might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Jack N Box. The crowd seem to be enjoying Shepherd's choice of entrance music: Alter Bridge - Addicted to pain . Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kane Miller! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rufus Shepherd! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Hirohito Nitta and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shepherd drives through and clinches with Miller against the ropes.
Shepherd tries to stall but Miller uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Shepherd throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Shepherd has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Miller regains guard immediately. Miller is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Shepherd is controlling him. Miller throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Miller wants to sweep here but Shepherd controlling him for the moment. Shepherd controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's one minute gone in the round. Let's hope that Shepherd has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Miller misses with a series of wild punches.
Miller gets tackled into the ropes by Shepherd. Shepherd maintains the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Miller breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Shepherd throws a series of punches but Miller moves out of range. Shepherd gets in close and instigates a clinch. Shepherd leaning against his opponent.
Miller has a couple of punches blocked by Shepherd.
Shepherd swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Shepherd lands on the inside with an uppercut. Shepherd creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Shepherd has a couple of punches blocked by Miller.
Miller avoids a wild elbow strike from Shepherd. Shepherd is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Shepherd ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Shepherd no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miller wants to stand but Shepherd is controlling his posture from full guard. Miller missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Miller wants to get up but he can't break Shepherd's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Miller with a flurry of punches that miss. Shepherd looking to control.
Shepherd is controlling Miller's posture. Miller trying to control the position from guard on top but Shepherd is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Miller being controlled here momentarily.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Miller connects with a high kick. Shepherd darts in and clinches Miller up against the ropes. Shepherd misses with the head strike.
Shepherd misses with a hook from the clinch. Shepherd jumps into guard, dragging Miller to the mat.
Miller trying to control the position from guard on top but Shepherd is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Shepherd preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Miller is looking to work some ground and pound but Shepherd has wrist control. Miller postures up in Shepherd's guard and throws a big left but Shepherd blocks it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rufus Shepherd dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Miller moves into range and clinches up with Shepherd. Miller is looking to control Shepherd's arms but Shepherd gets an underhook and turns him. Now Miller has his back to the ropes. Shepherd's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Shepherd is looking to control Miller's arms but Miller gets an underhook and turns him. Now Shepherd has his back to the ropes. Miller manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Shepherd decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Left hook, right uppercut from Miller.
Shepherd is rocked! Miller lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Shepherd falls backwards - clearly groggy! Miller dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kane Miller! Kane Miller decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way. Rufus Shepherd was interviewed post fight and said 'Unfortunately i lost but i will train a lot to win next fight for myself and you- my fans'.
