Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Clark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chris John! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Matt Clark! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! John tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Clark swivels and escapes. Clark lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Matt Clark seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. John blocks a head kick by Clark.
Clark misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
John feinted with a counter takedown. John fails to land the takedown. Clark misses with a series of wild punches.
Clark scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Clark has closed the distance and engaged John in a clinch.
Clark manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Some bone on bone action there as John checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. John dives in for a single leg takedown but Clark sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris John. That's going to take a lot out of him. Clark takes the fight into the clinch. Clark tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Clark breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. John swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Clark drives through with a takedown into guard. John escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Clark gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Clark stands up from John's guard - Clark perhaps looking for a knockout. John goes for a double leg but Clark avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Clark continues to drive forward. Clark moves into range and connects with a jab. Clark moves into range and clinches up with John. John has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Clark avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. John breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Clark's corner calls for a 1-2. Clark obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. John wants to clinch up but Clark keeps it at a distance. John avoids a punch combination nicely.
John drops down looking for a counter takedown but Clark sprawls and moves away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. John shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Clark sprawls well. Clark wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. John gets slowly back to his feet. John misses with a takedown attempt and Clark counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Clark manages to break the clinch.
John goes for a double leg but Clark avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Clark continues to drive forward. John is breathing heavily. Clark has managed to clinch.
John has Clark pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Clark manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Clark breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. John takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Clark slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
It looks like Chris John has been cut. Clark lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends John sprawling to the canvas. Clark follows him down, looking for the kill. Can John hang on?
John is rocked! Clark decides to stand and escape the position. Oh John is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! A slapping leg kick lands for Clark.
Clark throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. John seems to have got his legs back now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. John get stunned by a cross and takes another one on the button. John stumbles backwards and tries to bounce back off the cage but Clark runs in and jumps on him with a leaping lead hook that puts him out! Wow, that was highlight reel stuff! Awesome finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Matt Clark!
