The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Avecilla gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Eel slows down the pace here.

Eel jumps into guard, dragging Avecilla to the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Avecilla tries to free his leg and advance position but Eel is retaining full guard.
Avecilla won't allow Eel to sweep him here.
Eel is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Avecilla wants to pass the guard but Eel is keeping the position.

Eel turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Eel throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
An elbow from Eel crashes against the mat.
Avecilla is looking to regain half guard here but Eel keeps moving and retains side control.
Eel creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
We've been hearing that Eel has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Eel lands a few punches from side control.

Eel is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Eel scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Avecilla is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Eel can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
