PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Adam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alen Zalac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Zalac's choice of entrance music: Survival - Eminem. Alen Zalac has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with John Adam's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Adam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alen Zalac!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zalac tries to keep at a distance but Adam has taken the fight into the clinch.
Adam tries to score a body lock takedown but Zalac shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Zalac tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Adam smiles and moves away.
Adam circles away from the clinch attempt.
Adam throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Zalac's waist but Zalac gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Adam off to one side.
Zalac tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Adam paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Adam fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Adam. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Zalac tries to score a power double leg takedown but Adam sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Zalac somewhat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Adam lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Zalac shoots in for a double leg but Adam sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Adam throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Zalac's waist but Zalac gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Adam off to one side.
Zalac unleashes a big counter combination but Adam bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Zalac throws a head kick that misses.
Zalac walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Adam checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Zalac shoots for a takedown but Adam saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Adam half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Zalac looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Zalac looks winded!
Adam goes for a double leg but Zalac avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Zalac continues to drive forward.
Zalac looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Zalac displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Adam.

and Adam counters by moving into the clinch.
Adam slows down the pace here.
Adam has Zalac pressed against the cage, preventing Zalac from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Adam landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Adam breaks from the clinch.
Zalac closes the distance and clinches up with Adam, looking for a takedown. Zalac pushes Adam against the cage but Adam circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Adam takes the fight into the clinch.

Adam ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Adam no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Adam manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Zalac manages to get himself to full guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Adam is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Adam wants to pass the guard but Zalac is keeping the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Adam's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Zalac can't keep his opponent in guard - Adam advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Adam tries to pass the half guard into mount. Zalac knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Adam is taking a breather. Zalac says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Adam throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Adam could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Adam prevents Zalac from standing back up.

Adam is looking for a kimura here.
Zalac keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Adam dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Adam gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Zalac.
John Adam is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Adam shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Zalac will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Zalac displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Adam.
Adam scores with a head kick. Zalac tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Adam closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Adam lands a nice elbow.

Adam successfully pulls guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Adam avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Zalac stands and throws Adam's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Zalac trying to control the action but Adam is working from the bottom.
Zalac is breathing heavily.

Zalac fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Adam sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Zalac sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Adam defending well though.

Zalac is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Adam tries to kick Zalac off but Zalac keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Adam manages to get to full guard.

Adam is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Zalac defends well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Adam pulls Zalac in close to prevent any damage.
Zalac looking to pass the guard.
Adam looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Adam is striking from the bottom but Zalac uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Adam punching from the bottom.
Adam trying to hold on to Zalac's head to control him but Zalac postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Zalac tries to clinch but Adam moves out of range.
Zalac scores with a hook.
Adam shoots in but Zalac avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Adam. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Zalac is looking to clinch.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Adam.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Zalac throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A combination from Zalac does no damage.
Adam will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Adam shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Zalac pinned against the cage. Zalac gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Adam swats away the attempt to clinch by Zalac.
Zalac tries to clinch up.

Adam closes the distance and pushes Zalac back into the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Adam has picked Zalac up - he's going for a ride! Adam dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Zalac kicks Adam off and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Adam will probably get the nod.
That's time! Adam's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Zalac shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Adam holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Zalac is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Adam to keep the fight standing.
Adam is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Adam's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Adam is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Zalac can do to turn this around?
Adam pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Zalac back to the cage. Adam follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
An inside leg kick from Zalac misses.
Zalac is trying hard to land a takedown here. Adam sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
John Adam has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alen Zalac.
Zalac takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Adam shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Zalac as he avoids it easily.
Zalac misses with a right hand

and Adam holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Adam breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Adam throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Adam clinches with his opponent.

Adam pulls Zalac into guard.
Adam is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Adam trying to keep a closed guard but Zalac is proving a slippery customer.
John Adam overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Adam working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Zalac.
Adam looking to hit a scissor sweep but Zalac is one step ahead there.
Adam keeping moving, preventing Zalac from controlling successfully.

Zalac postures up in Adam's guard and throws a big left but Adam blocks it.

Adam looking for a guillotine here but Zalac defends easily.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Zalac trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Zalac scores with a one two! Adam had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Adam gets a clinch.

Adam pulls guard effortlessly.
Zalac throws a big elbow that misses.
Adam preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Adam avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Adam wants to sweep here but Zalac controlling him for the moment.

Adam is looking for a triangle but Zalac pushes his legs off easily.
Adam looking to hit a scissor sweep but Zalac is one step ahead there.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Adam displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Zalac.
Zalac stuffs the takedown attempt from Adam. Adam gets slowly back to his feet.
Zalac misses with a jab, cross combination.
Zalac takes a kick to the side of the head.
Adam throws a jab but it's blocked by Zalac.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Zalac tries to close the distance and clinch up but Adam swats him away and circles back towards the center.
John Adam is winning the standup battle so far.
Zalac wants to clinch.
Adam throwing a counter right hand but Zalac manages to avoid it.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Adam showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Adam has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
